Serena Williams to beat Alison Riske 2-0
Alison Riske pulled off the shock of ‘Manic Monday’, defeating first seed Ashley Barty in three sets in a battling display. Every single one of the American’s matches at Wimbledon have gone the distance.
This has largely been due to her slow starts, the 29-year-old losing the first set in 75% of her matches despite progressing. Against Serena, she will not be able to get away with such lethargy, especially as the 23-time Grand Slam champion is just beginning to find her rhythm after a slow start by her standards.
She lost just four games on the way to beating Suarez Navarro in the last round and she can be equally dominant against Riske.
Simona Halep to beat Shuai Zhang 2-0
As predicted yesterday, Simona Halep made light work of the budding 15-year-old Coco Gauff and she has now gone 11/4 second favourite for the tournament.
Pliskova getting knocked out in a 13-11 decider to Muchova yesterday has completely opened up her side of the draw and I would be surprised if the Romanian doesn’t go on to make the final now.
Zhang Shuai will be no pushover but the way Halep is playing, I don’t see her taking a set off her.
Murray/Williams to beat Martin/Atawo 2-0
Andy Murray and Serena Williams proved what everyone assumed, that they are a formidable doubles pairing when they dismissed their opponents 6-4 6-1 in their first match.
Both are multiple Grand Slam winners in their own right and will only get better the more they play together – they should progress past the second round without too many problems.
