Eurovision Semi Final 2

We went three winners from three tips in the opening Eurovision Semi-Final earlier in the week. Admittedly, all three tips were odds-on given the predictable nature of Eurovision.

That said, this is a much weaker semi-final, and I therefore expect a few more surprises along the way.

There are a handful of countries which will definitely qualify, but are not worth betting given the heavy odds-on. These are:
 

  • Australia
  • Denmark
  • Romania


Then I believe there are three more countries who will qualify, but are less guaranteed:

  1. Malta
  2. Bulgaria
  3. Cyprus


Then there are two countries which I’m happy to discount from the off, these being:

  1. Azerbaijan
  2. Armenia


This leaves four spots, with seven countries competing for them.

Ukraine has an incredible recent qualification record, and are heavy odds-on to qualify. It looks like they’ll fill one of the remaining spots, but I’m far from convinced by their act.

Three spaces left… from that list I’m going to rule out Switzerland, who have a poor draw in the running order, and have been poorly supported in both the betting and online polls.

This leaves Albania, Czechia, Latvia, Luxembourg, and Norway for the final three spots.

Latvia is another I’m going to rule out for similar reasons: poor draw and poor support.

I’m not convinced by Albania in any way, but they have got a good draw in the running order and have polled better than other countries, so will likely claim a spot.

Norway also gets the nod; their act is different enough to separate themselves from this group.

My last pick is based on the odds mainly. Czechia has a poor draw in the running order, and their votes/betting isn’t too dissimilar to Luxembourg, plus they have a mixed qualifying record.

Therefore, Luxembourg gets the nod for the 10th spot, which will be somewhat of a surprise inclusion. As mentioned, this Semi-Final is a lot more unpredictable than the first.
