Pete Alonso Home Run Derby Odds: Alonso Given Nearly 25% Chance to Win 2023 Home Run Derby

Pete Alonso Home Run Derby Odds: Alonso Given Nearly 25% Chance to Win 2023 Home Run Derby

Pete Alonso has won the Home Run Derby twice. He's looking for a third tonight after being eliminated in the second round of last year's Derby by Julio Rodriguez.

Coincidentally, Rodriguez and Alonso will square off in the first round of the Derby. Alonso has hit the second-most home runs in the field of eight, while Rodriguez has hit the seventh most.

Rodriguez smacked 31 home runs to defeat Alonso in the semifinals last year. But Alonso is still the favorite to move on tonight, even with Rodriguez hitting homers in T-Mobile Park.

Should Alonso bettors be scared?

Pete Alonso has never lost in the first round of the Home Run Derby. He's always very prepared and usually never gasses out. There's going to be a lot of pressure on Rodriguez. Not only will Seattle fans expect him to knock off Alonso again this year, but they're also expecting him to win the whole thing in his home ballpark.

However, Rodriguez hasn't shown much power this year for the Mariners. That's why he's ranked seventh in the Derby.

I'll ride with Alonso to get passed Rodriguez this time around. We've got a rivalry brewing in the Derby!

Pete Alonso has won the Derby twice. He'll be the favorite for tonight's contest. It's easier to get excited over former players that were in the Home Run Derby. They know how to pace themselves and are more familiar with the timer. Some newer sluggers might waste their energy early and struggle to hit homers later in the tournament.

That's why Alonso, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., and Rodriguez are at the top of the list. It doesn't mean someone below them can't win, but experience matters.

Meanwhile, Mookie Betts suggested that he likely won't win, and Adley Rutschman is a switch-hitting catcher. No switch-hitter or catcher has ever won the Derby. So take that how you want to take it.
