Every farm system got better in this year's MLB Draft.
Meanwhile, some teams have lost players with prospect status because those guys are now raking in the big leagues. Keep that in mind when we rank every team's farm system after this year's MLB Draft.
1. Baltimore Orioles
Gunnar Henderson doesn't count as a prospect anymore. But the Orioles still have Jackson Holliday and Grayson Rodriguez in the farm system. They had five prospects in the Top 100 before the MLB Draft and then added Enrique Bradfield from Vanderbilt and Mac Horvath from North Carolina. They've still got a loaded farm system.
2. Arizona Diamondbacks
The Arizona Diamondbacks have Drew Jones and Jordan Lawlar in the farm system. Despite playing many games in the MLB, Corbin Carroll is also listed as a prospect. I won't count him because he won't ever play on the farm again. But with the addition of Tommy Troy, Jack Hurley, Gino Groover, and Cade Grice, the Diamondbacks are looking solid.
3. Cincinnati Reds
The Reds are starting to draft well. They added Elly De La Cruz, Matt McLain, Spencer Steer, and Andrew Abbott into the MLB this year, and they've dominated the competition. But with that said, the farm system has taken a bit of a dip. Edwin Arroyo, Noelvi Marte, and Cam Collier are all awesome prospects, along with new additions Rhett Lowder and Ty Floyd. The Reds continue to cook.
4. Pittsburgh Pirates
The Pirates called up Henry Davis. So that's going to hurt their farm a bit. But the addition of Paul Skenes will go a long way. He might not last in the minors too long. The Pirates are also developing Termarr Johnson and Endy Rodriguez. Johnson has some time before seeing the majors, but Rodriguez could be called up any time now.
5. Texas Rangers
The Rangers have watched Josh Jung put together an incredible first half of 2023. He's no longer a prospect in the farm. But Evan Carter, Sebastian Walcott, Luisangel Acuna, Tekoah Roby, Justin Foscue, and Jack Leiter are all top-tier athletes in the farm system. Texas also just added Wyatt Langford, who will likely see the majors in a year or two. Texas' future looks bright.
6. Tampa Bay Rays
We can never question the Rays and their farm system development. Taj Bradley is in the majors now. He won't count. But Curtis Mead, Junior Caminero, Kyle Manzardo, and Carson Williams are all high-level players in the Tampa Bay farm system. Add Brayden Taylor, Adrian Santana, and Colton Ledbetter to that list too. The Rays continue to dominate their farm.
7. Chicago Cubs
The Cubs developed their farm system last year. They've now got six players in the Top 100 and just added Matt Shaw in the MLB Draft. Shaw was a bit of a reach, but he's still very talented. Pete-Crow Armstrong is moving up the rankings quickly. That's good news for a Cubs team that needs help fast.
8. Miami Marlins
Unfortunately, Jacob Berry hasn't been good for the Marlins after being drafted 6th overall last year. But Eury Perez is back down in the minors. They've also got Jake Eder, Yiddi Cappe, Max Meyer, Noble Meyer, and Thomas White. They've got a ton of starting pitching depth in the minors.
9. San Francisco Giants
San Francisco's Luis Matos and Patrick Bailey have become major leaguers. Kyle Harrison and Marco Luciano are waiting for their call-ups. That should happen next year. They've now got a two-way player in Bryce Eldridge and drafted Walker Martin, Joe Whitman, Maui Ahuna, and Cole Foster in the MLB Draft. They had a great draft and now have plenty of depth.
10. Washington Nationals
Elijah Green hasn't worked out for the Nationals. But James Wood and Brady House are expected to be very good. Add those two with Dylan Crews, Yohandy Morales, and Travis Sykora, and you've got a quality farm system.
11. Minnesota Twins
Minnesota still has Brooks Lee in the minors. But Royce Lewis, Edouard Julien, and Louie Varland have all been in the majors for most of the season. Varland is back down but is back in the majors in no time. Adding Walker Jenkins will help the farm system and Charlee Soto. The Twins drafted well enough to bolster up their farm.
12. Boston Red Sox
Boston had five players in the Top 100 prospects list before the Draft. Kyle Teel could be in that Top 100 when the new list comes out.
13. Detroit Tigers
The Tigers' prospects are solid, but they're not consistent. Wilmer Flores and Ty Madden should be up soon at the MLB level. Colt Keith is the big prospect, but he's probably got one more year, even at the AAA level.
Max Clark will quickly become their best prospect. But they'll also have to be patient with him.
14. Los Angeles Dodgers
The Dodgers called up Bobby Miller but still have Michael Busch and Miguel Vargas on the list. Those two have high ceilings, along with Diego Cartaya and Andy Pages. Jake Gelof will make some noise for the Dodgers too.
15. San Diego Padres
For a team that continues to trade prospects away for current MLB stars, the Padres have still done well developing a farm. Jackson Merrill, Ethan Salas, and Dylan Lesko are all in the farm system. Those three won't see an MLB diamond in a couple of years. But those three have a lot of potential, along with Dillon Head, who was just drafted this week.
16. New York Mets
Francisco Alvarez and Brett Baty have been playing in the majors and likely won't get sent back down. But the Mets still have Alex Ramirez, Ronny Mauricio, Mark Vientos, and Kevin Parada making noise in the farm system.
17. St. Louis Cardinals
I thought the Cardinals did well with their Draft this year. The additions of Chase Davis, Travis Honeyman, and Quinn Mathews were all solid pickups. Jordan Walker is now in the majors, along with Matthew Liberatore. However, Liberatore is going back and forth between the majors and minors. Still, Masyn Winn, Tink Hence, and Gordan Graceffo have helped the Cardinals boost their farm.
18. Seattle Mariners
Bryce Miller was a gem for the Mariners. But he's up in the Majors now. The Mariners still have Harry Ford and Cole Young, but that top portion of their prospect list is thin. Luckily, they had three top-30 selections in this year's MLB Draft and added Colt Emerson, Jonny Farmelo, and Tai Peete. That's going to help.
19. Milwaukee Brewers
The Brewers are finally building a farm system. Jackson Chourio and Sal Frelick are the two players to watch out for with the Brewers farm. Blake Wilken and Eric Bitoni were also solid gets for the Brewers in the Draft.
20. Toronto Blue Jays
Ricky Tiedemann and Addison Barger are two players that could see the major league diamond next season. Arjun Nimmala was selected first overall this year. He's projected to be an excellent prospect for the Blue Jays. But the farm doesn't have a lot of impressive talent if we're honest.
21. Kansas City Royals
Blake Mitchell will help Kansas City's farm look more acceptable. But they don't have a single player in the farm system in the MLB Top 100 prospects list. Maikel Garcia's in the MLB right now, and Gavin Cross has fallen down the list pretty wildly.
22. New York Yankees
The Yankees are thin in the farm system right now. Anthony Volpe and Oswald Peraza were the two names to watch out for last year. Now it's Jasson Dominguez this year, who has struggled in AA this season. George Lombard Jr. will be a good addition. But the farm system needs to be replenished even more.
23. Philadelphia Phillies
Philadelphia's Andrew Painter and Mick Abel lead the list of names for the Phillies in the farm system. Painter could even be up this season. Adding Aidan Miller will help the farm system, but I thought the rest of Philadelphia's Draft was OK. We'll see.
24. Oakland Athletics
You'd think the Athletics would have high-tier prospects after all the stars they've traded. They only have one player on the farm in the Top 100 prospects. Mason Miller and Ken Waldichuk are now MLB-caliber players. However, Jacob Wilson should help the depth along with Myles Naylor.
25. Houston Astros
Hunter Brown and Yainer Diaz were called up for the Astros. That leaves them with Drew Gilbert and Korey Lee in the Top 100 MLB Prospects list. Brice Matthews has plenty of potential, but the Astros took him too early. That farm system isn't looking too bright right now.
26. Colorado Rockies
Chase Dollander will quickly become Colorado's best prospect. Cole Carrigg could also be one of the gems in the Draft for Colorado. Adael Amador and Dyan Jorge are quality prospects, but they won't be up for a few years.
27. Atlanta Braves
Atlanta's top prospects are now all starting pitchers. That's OK because they were able to lock up positional talent at the major league level. But that still makes the farm system look pretty weak, regardless.
28. Cleveland Guardians
The Guardians called up Bo Naylor, have used Logan Allen plenty, and have also called up Tanner Bibee and Gavin Williams. So the farm isn't looking too hot, especially after they reached on Ralphy Velazquez early in this year's MLB Draft.
29. Los Angeles Angels
Logan O'Hoppe and Zach Neto were at the top of the Angels' prospect list before the season. Now they're both in the majors, and the Angels just reached on another power bat. They'll never learn. After an Ohtani trade, the Angels might rise in the rankings.
30. Chicago White Sox
Chicago still has just two players in the Top 100 prospects list. Neither of those two will even get a call-up this year. Jacob Gonzalez will likely become one of their better prospects in no time. But their Draft as a whole wasn't even that exciting beyond Gonzalez.
