Saints vs. Rams Prediction, Betting Pick, Latest NFL Preseason Odds for Saturday, August 22nd

The New Orleans Saints will visit the Los Angeles Rams at 4 PM ET on Saturday, August 22, at SoFi Stadium. New Orleans is a slight 1.5-point favorite with a 36.5 total as both teams continue evaluating backup quarterbacks after dramatically different preseason openers. Check out this Saints vs. Rams prediction and best bet for August 22.

Saints vs. Rams Prediction: Will Spencer Rattler Find Success in Second Preseason Game?

New Orleans is a 1.5-point road favorite at -112, with Los Angeles +1.5 (-108). The Saints are -125 on the moneyline, the Rams are +105 and the total sits at 36.5.

The Saints went 6-11 and missed the postseason last year. Los Angeles finished 12-5, beat Carolina and Chicago in the playoffs and came within one game of the Super Bowl before losing 31-27 at Seattle in the NFC Championship Game.

New Orleans lost 24-20 to Jacksonville last week after blowing a 14-point advantage. Spencer Rattler started, while Zach Wilson was the most impressive Saints quarterback, completing 11 of 16 passes for 145 yards and a touchdown without an interception. Tyler Shough was protected and may again receive little or no game action after getting significant work during the joint practice with Los Angeles.

Saints vs. Rams Prediction

The Saints are still sorting out the hierarchy behind Shough, giving Rattler and Wilson plenty of incentive to play aggressively. That is a positive for New Orleans, but the team is also expected to protect many regular starters again after using the joint session as its primary first-team evaluation.

The Rams beat Kansas City 20-12 in their opener despite sitting Matthew Stafford and nearly every established star. Rookie Ty Simpson was excellent, completing 21 of 25 passes for 190 yards and two fourth-quarter touchdowns. Stetson Bennett IV attempted only six passes, so Sean McVay can balance the workload more evenly this week while continuing the competition behind Stafford.

Los Angeles' preseason approach almost never relies on established starters, yet McVay's reserve groups remain consistently organized. Simpson already looked comfortable in the offense, and Bennett has several years of familiarity with the system.

Saints vs. Rams Pick

New Orleans has its own legitimate backup competition, but Los Angeles enters with the better opening performance and a rookie quarterback who looked significantly more advanced than expected. Getting the Rams at plus money at home makes more sense than laying a road price with a Saints team that just surrendered a late lead.
