NBA Rookie of the Year Odds: Jabari Smith Screams Value in Post-2022 NBA Draft ROY Odds

The 2022 NBA Draft concluded last night with 58 names announced and many other prospects signing on with teams as undrafted free agents. Most of those prospects won't get many minutes in the NBA this season. However, the first-round selections will get an opportunity to shine with their new teams. Most players suggest they'd rather win than win awards, but the Rookie of the Year award is on all of these players' minds. Let's break down the 2022-23 Rookie of the Year award odds post-draft.

The Best Bets for NBA ROY

Jaden Ivey, Detroit Pistons: +500 (Bet $100 to Win $500)

If you don't want to select any of the top three players to win Rookie of the Year, Jaden Ivey is your best bet. Ivey doesn't have the best defense, but his athleticism will help him make incredible plays on the defensive end. Maybe his shot selection isn't all that good either but playing alongside Cade Cunningham and Jalen Duren should help Ivey get accustomed pretty quickly in the league. The Pistons will still take time to develop, but Ivey will get all the minutes you could ask for in this spot. Eventually, Cunningham will turn into a walking triple-double and Ivey will be the recipient of many of those assists.

Jabari Smith Jr., Houston Rockets: +375 (Bet $100 to Win $375)

The Rockets are in a rebuilding stage but have basically drafted a whole new starting lineup. The Rockets will now have TyTy Washington at point guard, Jalen Green at shooting guard, Tari Eason at small forward, Jabari Smith Jr. at power forward, and Alperen Sengun at the center spot. All around, this just feels like Smith Jr. will have a ton of young talent to work with. A young squad will make a ton of mistakes but they'll also have a lot of swagger about them and the chemistry should really start to come together. Smith Jr. should've been the first draft pick. He was third. He'll also have a chip on his shoulder to perform this season.

Sleeper Pick: Ochai Agbaji, Cleveland Cavaliers: (Bet $100 to Win $2000)

Sometimes you need a player that is allowed to drink alcohol. Agbaji played four seasons with Kansas and finished his career with 18.8 points per game. Better yet, he led Kansas to a national title in his final season and improved every single year. Agbaji was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers and joins a very intriguing Cavaliers team that lacked depth at the wing. Now Agbaji can be that guy and play alongside Collin Sexton, Darius Garland, Evan Mobley, and Jarrett Allen. He could become a real threat offensively and can do a lot of other things to stand out as well. With a chance that Agbaji starts on opening night, I'd take that chance any day of the week, betting Agbaji to win the award at +2000.
