After the draft, Chet Holmgren was a distant third on the Rookie of the Year market. Sportsbooks had him well behind Paolo Banchero and Jabari Smith. However, a historic debut in Summer League has changed everything.

Chet Holmgren took just one game to show how dominant he can be. He set the Summer League block record with 6 and had 23 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists, all while shooting 77.8% from the field. Performances like that are going to catch the eyes of sportsbooks and bettors everywhere.

Holmgren has seen his odds move from +575 to +360 overnight. That’s a change from an implied 14.8% chance to win Rookie of the Year to a 21.7% chance. That moves him from 3rd on the market to first. With Paolo Banchero seeing his odds lengthened from +300 to +440, Jabari Smith has gone from +350 to +550.

Bettors agree with the sportsbooks here. Over the last 24 hours, Holmgren has seen 50% of bets placed on him to win Rookie of the Year. Meanwhile, Banchero has seen just 10% of bets placed on him. Smith isn’t even among the five most bet on rookies.

Banchero and Smith have a chance to answer back, as neither has played a Summer League game yet. However, it should come as no surprise that Holmgren’s odds have skyrocketed after his historic debut.
