NBA Rookie of the Year Rankings

1. Paolo Banchero (-650) Bet $100 to collect $115 Click here for the best odds, available at FanDuel

Paolo went from -250 to -600 over the week, and he’s now averaging 23.5 points per game and 8.3 rebounds per game. He’s playing like a borderline All-Star at his position and in his conference, and if he continues his play, I could see him being an injury-replacement player (if needed, of course). As a first-pick who was deemed, at the time, the most NBA-ready prospect, he’s lived up to those expectations and the line reflects that. His worst games this season have been what most rookies would normally average.

2. Bennedict Mathurin (+500) Bet $100 to collect $600 Click here for the best odds, available at FanDuel

Benn Mathurin has very easily been the second-best rookie, and Paolo wasn’t playing as incredible as he’s been, Mathurin would easily lead these odds by a landslide. He’s far ahead of Jaden Ivey for a reason, too. Averaging 20.4 points per game in the position he’s in with the Pacers is incredible for Mathurin, and he’s even shown why he’s one of the most efficient scorers amongst any player in the league. If he was consistently getting around 36 minutes, his averages could be up, too, and maybe less room for dud games that end up with just above 10 points. Again, he’s been great by rookie standards.

3. Jaden Ivey (+5500) Bet $100 to collect $5600. Click here for the best odds, available at FanDuel

Ivey is having quite a solid rookie season, and more so where my expectations were coming into this season. I wasn’t expecting a rookie to be a 20 points-per-game scorer this far into the season, let alone two of them. Ivey is still averaging 14.9 points per game while showing great promise for his future. His effort and relentlessness on offense are going to be a bright spot in his game, and if the two players ahead of him in this race weren’t playing as incredibly, his odds would be much better.

4. Keegan Murray (+6500) Bet $100 to collect $6600. Click here for the best odds, available at FanDuel

Murray has averaged 11.9 points per game this far into the season, and he’s been a big part of the elevation of De’Aaron Fox being able to play better offensively. He’s a solid shooter, and along with the Kings’ other acquisitions, he’s a great fit for the squad and his talent will be able to be maximized during his time there. At best he’ll be able to be the third, sometimes second, option for the team as they’ve got a near All-Star and former All-Star in Fox and Domantas Sabonis.

5. Jabari Smith Jr. (+24000) Bet $100 to collect $24100. Click here for the best odds, available at FanDuel

Smith Jr. is averaging 10.5 points per game and 6 rebounds per game this far into the season. His odds are quite far off any jump, and it’ll take a very solid stretch to close the jump on any improvement in the rankings. He’s been okay, and he’s been promising on defense, but he can show way more of his offensive arsenal this season, and I hope he gets to that point. Similar to Murray, he’s a solid floor stretcher that fits the lineup well, but the Kings have more talent than the Rockets, so theoretically, Smith Jr. has more opportunity to play a more integral role in the offense. As the third pick, he should be taking more shots than he is, even if he’s not too efficient at the start. His expectations weren’t to be an efficient, incredible scorer yet, but he could take steps in the right direction with more volume of shooting.
