It’s official. Luka Doncic is the mean bully who never goes away no matter how hard you try. No defense in the NBA can stop Doncic, even if they take the other four players out of the play. This leads him to retake the lead in this race. Let’s take a look at the updated NBA MVP Odds Rankings.

2022-23 NBA MVP Race
1. Luka Doncic MVP Odds (+300) (Bet $100 to collect $400) FanDuel has the best odds, click here
With an incredible follow-up to his 60-21-10 stat line, Doncic proves to be unstoppable. He scored 51 points within a week of scoring 60 points. He also added two very solid 30+ point performances. Similar to Russell Westbrook’s MVP season, Doncic leading a not-so-good squad to a sixth seed could be enough to win the award, and he’s got his squad up to the fourth seed with a winning streak that got ended by Jayson Tatum and the Celtics.
That win streak mentioned was a seven-game win streak, where Doncic averaged nearly 42 points per game. His stretch was incredible enough and was capped off by retaking the top spot in the race. I’ve said this earlier in the season, but it feels like Doncic turned up the sliders on NBA 2k and his usage rate is so high that it makes sense.

2. Giannis Antetokounmpo MVP Odds (+400) (Bet $100 to collect $500) FanDuel has the best odds, click here
Though Luka jumped to the top spot on the list, Giannis held steady at second, and Tatum fell to the third spot. He averaged around 43 points per game over the past week and scored a 50-piece of his own. He continues to prove to be one of the best players in the world, and who knows – maybe with the same circumstances as Luka, Giannis would have a more compelling stat line and MVP case.
However, my take on Giannis’ MVP case is quite bland. He’s got the track history, talent, and numbers to win the award, but simply narrative and voter fatigue is why he’s likely going to coast at the second and third spot as the season continues.
3. Jayson Tatum MVP Odds (+425) (Bet $100 to collect $500) BetMGM has the best odds, click here
Just under 30 points every game for the past week, Tatum did enough to remain close to the top spot on this list. The top two candidates are incredibly hard to compete with numbers-wise, and not having a 30-point game at all for the week will leave you behind. His team will continue winning, and Tatum’s numbers will hit another spike to make this conversation even spicier.
Personally, I wouldn’t read too much into Tatum falling to third. Obviously, the numbers are close, and the odds gap is tight, and Tatum is the top player on the best team in the NBA – he’s not going anywhere.
4. Nikola Jokic MVP Odds (+500) (Bet $100 to collect $600) FanDuel has the best odds, click here
Jokic’s case against voter fatigue is even worse than Giannis’, as Jokic has won two straight MVPs now and is working towards his third. However, his stats aren’t as eye-popping, but his team is atop the Western Conference. His team has allowed him to not have to score 30 points a night, so his points per game seem low, and he’s not having to take over games in the late game as much, either.
It’s going to be hard for Jokic to crack the narrative and take the top spot, but he’s hanging around the top four guys quite closely, and he won’t be ignored. The numbers are still incredibly solid even with the inflated stats for everyone else.
5. Kevin Durant MVP Odds (+800) (Bet $100 to collect $900) FanDuel has the best odds, click here
This past week has felt like Durant forcing his way to be close to everyone above him on this list. He’s slowly closing the gap, and rightfully so. This MVP race is going to run about five players deep all season. The Nets recently had their 12-game winning streak snapped, but Durant still couldn’t be stopped in the loss as he had 44 points.
Durant is playing winning basketball for his squad while he’s still getting his own and proving that no shot is a bad one for him. He’s incredibly hard to slow down, and he’s making teams play when they try too hard to slow him down by trusting his teammates. Team success and individual play are both going in Durant’s favor as he catches up to the rest of the players on the list.
