NBA MVP Odds Update: Nikola Jokic Pulling Away in the MVP Race

The NBA MVP odds race has been coasting as of late but it seems Nikola Jokic is pulling away from the field. Joel Embiid remains in Jokic’s shadow, Giannis Antetokounmpo’s odds are a bit low and Jayson Tatum is not quite getting the respect he deserves. However, there was some slight movement this week. So, let’s take an updated look at the 2023 NBA MVP odds power rankings.

NBA MVP Race

1. Nikola Jokic (-260) Bet $100 to collect $138 PointsBet has the best odds, click here to bet

Jokic has been the clear-cut favorite for some time now. All, and I mean all, of the statistics back up Jokic as the MVP. Now, he’s won two in a row. He’s the king of analytics. But voter fatigue is very real, and that may get in the way of Jokic’s incredible season. His numbers have been only climbing all season and he’s found his way to averaging a triple-double. This only sharpens his MVP resume this season and adds another layer of comfort he hasn’t yet had when making an MVP case.

2. Joel Embiid (+600) Bet $100 to collect $700 DraftKings has the best odds, click here to bet

Statistically, Embiid deserves to be near the top of the MVP race. He and Luka Doncic are going neck and neck for the scoring title. The impressive part of this is that Embiid is doing so as a center. Nowadays, offenses are run through guards and wings, so it’s refreshing to see two centers atop the MVP odds for two completely different reasons. However, there’s not much Embiid does that is more impactful than Jokic on the basketball court. He’s been in his shadow when it comes to the accolades for the past few seasons, and that’s likely going to continue and trend that way moving forward.

3. Giannis Antetokounmpo (+1100) Bet $100 to collect $1,200 FanDuel has the best odds, click here to bet

The elite stat line is getting hard to use to defend every player and team's MVP case. But Giannis provides so much more and, to me, should be ahead of Embiid with higher odds. He’s still in the 30+ points per game threshold with a monster double-double. His team is also even closer to the top seed in the Eastern Conference than Embiid’s trailing only Tatum’s Celtics. So, Giannis has built himself a solid case to win his third MVP as well.

4. Jayson Tatum (+2000) Bet $100 to collect $2,100 BetRivers has the best odds, click here to bet

If anyone has followed my MVP updates over time, they’d know my stance on Tatum and his odds. The value is incredible and he was the favorite for half of the season. The regular season MVP award accounts for the entirety of the regular season, and Tatum has done some ridiculous things while leading his team to a top spot in the Eastern Conference. If that stands, I expect his odds to get a big boost. So, being the best player on potentially the best team in the league means something, and to me, that’s not with the fourth-best odds, but the top two.

5. Luka Doncic (+2000) Bet $100 to collect $2,100 BetRivers has the best odds, click here to bet

This is a completely reasonable fall for Luka Doncic. His video game numbers dropped, and that’s all Doncic had going for him. Everyone ahead of him, all with elite numbers of their own, is way ahead in the standings. Now, with Kyrie Irving playing for the Mavericks, Doncic doesn't have to play as much hero ball and will take another slight statistical dip. And when that happens, Doncic’s odds are going to dip even more unless they can make a huge surge to climb the Western Conference rankings.
