We had a major shakeup in the NBA MVP Odds board this week.
Joel Embiid was leading the group in odds for almost a month. However, he's been sidelined since January 5, and bettors are starting to worry that he won't play enough games to qualify for the MVP Award.

NBA MVP Power Rankings
1. Nikola Jokic (+170) (Bet $100 to collect $270)
In January, Nikola Jokic averaged about 23 points per game with 9.9 assists and 9.1 rebounds per game.
That's below his season average of 25.5 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 9.3 assists. Still, he shot 77.4% from the field in January and has been super efficient as of late.
Jokic made 12-of-13 shots against the Pacers in 33 minutes, earning a 9.23% field goal percentage in a game where he still scored 25 points. That's extremely difficult to do.
2. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (+280) (Bet $100 to collect $380)
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has the Thunder in a fantastic position mid-way through January. Oklahoma City is currently on a four-game winning streak, and Gilgeous-Alexander has scored at least 28 points in every game in January.
In the month, he's actually averaging 33 points per game and still shooting 61.2% from the field on more than 19 shots per game.
At +280, Shai's still has value. Voters get bored of the same players winning the award. Shai hasn't won it yet and would be an intriguing option for voters.
3. Luka Doncic (+500) (Bet $100 to collect $600)
Luka Doncic has only played in four games in January. But in those four games, he's averaged 31.3 points per game with 8.3 assists and six rebounds.
Doncic hasn't been super efficient, especially from downtown. He's taken ten threes per game in his last four matchups and has only hit 35%.
There are better options out there right now.
4. Giannis Antetokounmpo (+600) (Bet $100 to collect $700)
Giannis just earned a triple-double against the Sacramento Kings in a one-point overtime win.
In 40 minutes, he only took 16 shots. But he nailed nine of them and added nine foul shots on 14 attempts. He also earned three steals after scoring 27 points, ten assists, and ten rebounds.
If the Bucks can put together a lengthy win streak, Giannis will get ahead of Doncic shortly.
5. Joel Embiid (+900) (Bet $100 to collect $1000)
Joel Embiid has the best stats in the NBA. He's averaged nearly 35 points per game and has added 11.8 rebounds with six assists while shooting 53.5% from the field.
But he's been unable to play in many games this month and is dangerously close to missing too many games. That would make him ineligible to win the MVP award.
6. Jayson Tatum (+2500) (Bet $100 to collect $2600)
Tatum went from +3400 to +2500, but he's still far away from winning the award. Against the Bucks on January 11, he played 16 minutes and scored seven points in a blowout loss.
MVP's don't let that happen.
