NBA MVP Race: Jalen Brunson Has Entered the Race To Win MVP Heading Into Week 16

The 76ers have announced that Joel Embiid will miss an extended time due to knee surgery. He's having meniscus surgery and won't be able to play enough games for the 76ers to win the award.

Therefore, he has dropped out of the race for the MVP.

Here's what the MVP race looks like without Embiid.

NBA MVP Rankings

1. Nikola Jokic (-150) (Bet $150 to collect $250)

Nikola Jokic was in a tight race with Joel Embiid for the MVP just last week. But now that Embiid is out of the race, he's the clear favorite.

Jokic has added 26.3 points, 12.2 rebounds, and nine assists per game this season while shooting 58.7% from the floor.

The Nuggets are on a four-game winning streak and have won seven of their last eight games. That's also going to help.

2. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (+230) (Bet $100 to collect $330)

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has added more points per game than Nikola Jokic. However, he's only got 5.7 rebounds and 6.6 assists per game, while shooting 54.8% from the field.

The Thunder are playing incredibly well and will be near the top of the West standings with the Nuggets through the All-Star break.

Gilgeous-Alexander just added 23 points, 14 assists, and nine rebounds in a double-overtime win against the Raptors on Sunday.

3. Giannis Antetokounmpo (+650) (Bet $100 to collect $750)

The Bucks are just 1-3 with Doc Rivers as head coach.

Giannis is putting up some big numbers, averaging more than 40 points per game to begin February. But that won't matter if the Bucks can't find ways to win with their new head coach.

The grass isn't always greener, right?

4. Luka Doncic (+1100) (Bet $100 to collect $1200)

Doncic has added nearly 35 points per game with 8.6 rebounds and 9.6 assists. He's got some incredible numbers despite shooting 48.9% from the field.

However, the Mavericks have lost six of their last eight games. So he's sitting in fourth place.

Doncic will likely have Kyrie Irving back in the starting lineup this week. While that's potentially good for the NBA record, it might not be so good for his stats to win the MVP.

5. Jalen Brunson (+5500) (Bet $100 to collect $5600)

Jalen Brunson has surpassed Jayson Tatum on the MVP list.

It's well deserved. The Knicks just lost their nine-game winning streak to the Lakers at home. However, Brunson has had to rally this Knicks team without Julius Randle and OG Anunoby and has just been phenomenal.

It'll be hard for him to win this award. But he deserves to be on this list.
