NBA MVP Race: Nikola Jokic Has An 88% Chance Of Winning The MVP Heading Into Week 23

The MVP race is pretty much finished at this point.

Nikola Jokic's odds increased from -270 last week to -750 this week. Below, we'll explain why that happened and if it was justified.

NBA MVP Rankings

1. Nikola Jokic (-750) (Bet $750 to collect $100)

Nikola Jokic has added at least 30 points in three of his last four games. Since the All-Star Break, the Nuggets have only lost two games with Jokic on the floor.

This month, he's averaged 27.7 points, 12.3 rebounds, and 4.7 assists. But he's coming off a triple-double against the Knicks after playing 39 minutes while shooting 52.2% from the field.

The Nuggets still look like the best team in the Western Conference, and it's because of Jokic.

2. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (+650) (Bet $100 to collect $750)

A new MVP would've been fun. But Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is going to fall short.

He had been on a run that was probably unsustainable. Gilgeous-Alexander just scored 12 points in a brutal loss to the Milwaukee Bucks on Sunday. He had four turnovers and just two assists while only adding three rebounds and shooting 41.7% from the field.

He's been incredible this season. But down the stretch, he's had a few games that weren't very spectacular. Agaisnt the Lakers, he scored 20 points in a loss. He also added only 20 points against Memphis earlier in the month and then scored just 12 points against the Bucks.

3. Luka Doncic (+1600) (Bet $100 to collect $1700)

With Doncic on the floor, the Mavericks keep winning. He's scored a league-best 34.1 points per game, nine rebounds, and 9.8 assists per game.

While his shooting percentage is sitting at 48.8%, Doncic and the Mavericks have won seven consecutive games with Doncic starting. However, in three of those seven games, Doncic has shot under 40% from the field.

While the Mavericks play better with him on the floor, those shooting percentages in the month certainly won't help him win the MVP award.

4. Giannis Antetokounmpo (+7500) (Bet $100 to collect $7600)

The reality is Giannis Antetokounmpo has only played in eight games in March. In those eight games, he's scored 31.3 points per game with 12 rebounds and 6.8 assists.

He's also shot 60.7% from the field. He just hasn't played enough this month to make the jump. Plus, the Bucks are 5-3 with him on the floor this month, which isn't eye-popping at all.

5. Jayson Tatum (+7500) (Bet $100 to collect $7600)

In this month, Jayson Tatum shot just 46.3% from the field. However, he's still drained 48.3% from deep and has scored nearly 28 points per game.

The issue for Tatum is that he's on a team with so many premier scorers. He doesn't need to take over every night, which is fine. But that means his stats won't be padded to get an MVP Award.

As I continue to say, Tatum has a real chance at winning the Finals MVP and the NBA Finals this year. You can bet him to win that award instead when the time comes.
