Kevin Durant Next Team Odds: Will the San Antonio Spurs Land Kevin Durant to Match with Victor Wembanyama?

The Phoenix Suns have expressed interest in dealing both Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal after firing their head coach and looking to start over. Durant is nearing the end of his career and has a lot of injuries, but can still contribute to a franchise in the right spot. Jason Radowitz breaks down his potential landing spots if a trade materializes, with San Antonio leading the pack.

Kevin Durant Next Team Odds: Can The San Antonio Spurs Pair KD With Victor Wembanyama?

Although the NBA Finals are still ongoing, many in-the-know analysts believe this year's offseason could be particularly active, with numerous blockbuster deals expected.

The most intriguing option for trades is Kevin Durant. Since Durant left the Golden State Warriors, he and his teams haven't had much success. However, Durant is still one of the best scorers in the game. He was 6th in the NBA in points per game with 26.6 points and shot 52.7% from the field.

Durant requested a trade from the Brooklyn Nets in 2023 and found a new home with the Phoenix Suns shortly after. However, the Suns tried too hard to develop a Big Three and forgot about their depth. The Suns had Devin Booker, Bradley Beal, and Durant. But didn't have much help at the center position and lacked depth after all of the trades.

Therefore, the Suns are willing to build around Booker but are trying to get Durant and Beal off the payroll.

Durant has been linked to many teams in the offseason, including the San Antonio Spurs. The Spurs would love to have Victor Wembanyama and Kevin Durant together on the court. However, that would likely cost the Spurs their No. 2 pick, which would likely result in the selection of Rutgers superstar Dylan Harper.

It's unclear if the Spurs are genuinely willing to risk their future for Durant, who has really underwhelmed over the last couple of seasons. He's also on an expiring contract. After all, the Suns missed the playoffs this season, led by Durant. That's utterly embarrassing.

That said, let's check out Durant's current odds for his next team.

Kevin Durant's Next Team Betting Favorites

San Antonio Spurs (-125)

According to Shams Charania, the Phoenix Suns are in talks with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Houston Rockets, and Miami Heat. That's where most of the dialogue is right now.

Of course, the San Antonio Spurs have inquired and are still exploring options for a potential trade for Durant. However, it certainly doesn't appear that they're the favorites to land Durant.

Seeing Durant with the Spurs would be ideal. However, the Spurs must decide whether they'd rather have Dylan Harper, a potential trade, or Kevin Durant, who is on an expiring contract after his team failed to make the NBA Playoffs last season.

With De'Aaron Fox and Stephon Castle, it might be difficult for the Spurs to add Dylan Harper into the mix with the No. 2 pick. The Spurs can still look to trade this pick and could potentially get younger assets who don't have expiring contracts.

The Spurs certainly aren't a lock to add Durant, even if that's what most of the NBA world, and Durant, want.

Minnesota Timberwolves (+400)

The Timberwolves are super excited about the potential pairing of Anthony Edwards and Kevin Durant. The Suns would likely acquire Rob Dillingham, a young asset with considerable potential. In addition, the Suns would probably bring in Rudy Gobert, who would fix their center woes. There would also likely be many other draft pick assets and other NBA players in the deal.

I'm not sure if this is the best possible package for the Suns, but it's appealing if they no longer want the services of Durant. Ultimately, the Suns will be more intrigued with any offer that gets Bradley Beal off their hands, too. That could involve a three-team trade with a team like the Nets, which could take on Beal's contract and receive other assets in return.

Houston Rockets (+750)

Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets isn't very appealing. He'll play alongside Alperen Sengun and Jalen Green, but even after the Rockets' season, I don't think Durant moves the needle.

That said, the Rockets' package is arguably greater. If the Rockets gave up Reed Sheppard, Cam Whitmore, and this year's first-round pick, along with maybe another first-rounder, the Rockets have a better package to give than the Timberwolves.

Sheppard and Whitmore are projects, but they're both incredibly talented and have a ton of potential. Getting those types of assets for an expiring contract is great.

This is a better deal than Minnesota.

Miami Heat (+1000)

The Heat would likely trade away Nikola Jovic and multiple first-round picks to land Kevin Durant. Jovic is certainly improving year by year, but I don't think anyone expects him to take over in the NBA at any point in his career.

However, any team that can help get Beal off Phoenix's shoulders will likely have an easier time negotiating.

Ultimately, the Rockets and Timberwolves have more to offer. The Spurs also have plenty to offer, but at this time, it just doesn't seem like the Spurs are willing to pull the trigger.
