As January comes to a close, the 2025-26 NBA MVP race is starting to feel familiar. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander sits comfortably on top of the odds board once again, listed as a heavy favorite to repeat after another elite two-way season for Oklahoma City. The Thunder have stayed near the top of the West, and SGA’s night-to-night consistency has separated him from the rest of the field in both perception and betting markets.

Luka is brilliant, but the gap between his team success and OKC’s is what keeps him chasing rather than leading.

Cade’s leap has been real. He’s averaging 25.3 points and 9.8 assists, one of the best playmaking lines in the league, while logging over 35 minutes per game as Detroit’s engine. The Pistons are far more competitive than expected, and Cade’s ability to control pace and elevate teammates has become a major part of that story. His shooting efficiency at 45.7% keeps him just a tier below the very top candidates, but the narrative growth is undeniable.

Brown has quietly been one of the most productive scorers in the NBA. He’s averaging 29.4 points per game on 48.3% shooting, with nearly 7 rebounds and strong two-way impact for Boston. Voters still see Boston as a shared-responsibility team, which makes it hard for Brown to separate himself in an MVP race dominated by singular offensive engines.
