Milwaukee received Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis, the No. 13 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, two future first-round picks, one pick swap and a second-round pick.
The immediate winner is Miami because the Heat landed the best player in the deal. Giannis is 31, still a top-tier superstar when healthy, and now joins Bam Adebayo to form one of the most physical defensive frontcourts in the NBA. What The Heat Got
Miami’s side of the deal is easy to understand. The Heat were stuck between eras, too good to fully bottom out but not talented enough to win the East. Giannis changes that overnight, moving Miami from +6000 to +1600 to win the NBA Finals and from +1600 to +550 to win the Eastern Conference.
The fit with Bam gives Erik Spoelstra a defensive foundation that can travel in the playoffs. Miami can switch, protect the rim, dominate the glass and turn defense into transition offense. Giannis also gives the Heat the downhill pressure they have lacked, which should make life easier for their shooters and role players once the roster is rebuilt.
The issue is depth. Miami gave up Herro’s scoring, Ware’s frontcourt upside, Jaquez’s two-way wing profile and Jakucionis’ development path, plus major draft capital. The Heat now need guards, shooting and playable bench pieces in free agency. Giannis and Bam make Miami dangerous, but the rest of the roster still needs work before this looks like a finished championship team.
What The Bucks Got
Milwaukee did not get a player close to Giannis’ level, but that was never realistic once the franchise reached the point of moving him. The Bucks got a real rebuild package with current players, young upside and long-range picks that could become extremely valuable if Miami ages out later in the decade.
Herro gives Milwaukee a proven scorer who can carry offense right away. Ware is the most interesting upside piece because young centers with size and athleticism can be hard to find, while Jaquez gives the Bucks a competitive wing who can help stabilize the rotation. Jakucionis adds another developmental guard, and the No. 13 pick gives Milwaukee immediate draft-night flexibility.
The best part of the Bucks’ return is the draft capital. The unprotected 2031 and 2033 first-round picks, plus the 2030 swap, are the kind of assets a rebuilding team needs after trading a franchise icon. Milwaukee may not have won the emotional side of this deal, but it avoided being left with one young player and a weak pick package.
Who Won The Giannis Trade?
Miami won the trade if the goal is to win now. The Heat got the superstar, immediately changed their Finals odds and gave Spoelstra a Giannis-Bam foundation that can be elite on defense and terrifying in transition. But their bench and remainder of the roster may struggle without key additions this offseason as it's looking pretty empty right now.
Milwaukee did about as well as it could under the circumstances. Losing Giannis after 13 seasons is a franchise-altering blow, but the Bucks got scoring, youth, size, a lottery pick and multiple future firsts. That is a legitimate reset package, even if it will not replace the greatest player in team history.
The final verdict depends on health and follow-up moves. If Miami adds enough shooting and guard depth, the Heat are the winner because they turned a middling roster into an Eastern Conference contender. If Giannis’ health slips or Miami cannot rebuild the bench, the Bucks’ future picks could make this look much closer later. For now, the present belongs to Miami, while Milwaukee won the best rebuilding package it could realistically get.
