Errol Spence vs Yordenis Ugas Odds: Bettors Likes the Underdog

The upcoming fight between Yordenis Ugas and Errol Spence Jr. seems long overdue. Ugas has long been one of the top Welterweights in the world, but he’s 0-2 in WBC title fights. Meanwhile, Spence is an undefeated champion who’s knocked out 21 of the 27 people he’s fought. So, perhaps it shouldn’t be a surprise that this fight is causing disputes on the market.

Oddsmakers are backing Spence. The Unified Welterweight Champion is given -350 odds, or an implied 77.8% chance to win the fight. Ugas is given +275 odds, or an implied 26.7% chance to pull off the upset.

Meanwhile, bettors are backing the underdog. Over the last 30 days, 58.8% of bets have been placed on Ugas to win the fight. Just 29.4% of bets have been placed on Spence. A large 11.8% of bets have been placed on the two fighting to a draw, something neither has done in their career.

It almost feels like Spence has been prepping for this fight with his last three. Once known as the foremost knockout artist in his weight class, Spence has won his last 3 fights by decision. An important note because Ugas has never been knocked out in his career. His one loss since May 10 2014 came by split decision against Shawn Porter. Spence would then beat Porter by split decision later that year. So, one would imagine that these two are close in talent. After all, both are listed among the 10 best pound for pound boxers in the world. So, the oddsmakers and bettors being split should come as no surprise. This is going to be a real fight.
