Dana White's Contender Series Season 6, Ep. 2 Odds, Predictions: Charlie Campbell vs. Chris Duncan and More

Dana White’s Contender Series is back for another week, following a week one where just one fighter (Joe Pyfer) came out with a contract following a second-round TKO win. An unofficial tryout/showcase of the best up-and-coming talent, Dana White is on-hand each and every week to offer fighters who impress an on-the-spot contract in the UFC.

Will another fighter (or multiple) walk away with a contract in week two? Let’s take a closer look.

Charlie Campbell vs. Chris Duncan Prediction

Charlie Campbell (-150) vs. Chris Duncan (+130)

Following a week in which fellow Longo-Weidman fighter Dennis Buzukja picked up a win (but no contract) in DWCS, Charlie “The Cannibal” Campbell will make his DWCS debut at the UFC Apex. Coming into the fight with a record of 6-1, Campbell has now ended three straight fights via KO or TKO in under two rounds.

Campbell’s opponent, Chris Duncan, is a DWCS alumn, losing last season in his debut via KO/TKO. Winning in February, Duncan will now get his second shot, but I think the better striker in Campbell finds his rhythm early, ending this fight before the final bell.

Waldo Cortes-Acosta (-340) vs. Danilo Suzart (+280)

As the odds would imply, this is one of the most lopsided matchups of the night as Cortes-Acosta comes into this fight a much bigger fighter with some of the heaviest punches in DWCS this season. For a heavyweight, Cortes-Acosta is surprisingly light on his feet and has a great jab for a heavyweight.

As for Danilo Suzart, even for DWCS, his fight history up to his point is surprisingly bad, with a combined opponent record of just 11-10. With this one likely staying on the feet with little grappling skills to speak of for either fighter, I like the early KO/TKO from Cortes-Acosta as he earns his UFC contract.

Billy Goff vs. Shimon Smotritsky Prediction

Billy Goff (-195) vs. Shimon Smotritsky (+165)

Billy Goff will make his DWCS debut on Tuesday, entering the fight as the CES and Cage Titans welterweight champion in search of a much-coveted UFC contract. In his last three title fights/defenses, Goff has ended all three via KO/TKO inside of two rounds, something he’ll be looking to repeat here.

His opponent, Shimon Smotritsky, is a DWCS alumn from last season, where he lost in the first round via submission to Mike Malott. While he’s picked up a win in the time since it was in the Russian Cagefighting Championship against the relatively low-level competition.

While his grappling is likely better than Goff's, he’s shown a propensity to stand and strike; an edge Goff has in spades. Look for an early finish from Goff for one of my favorite bets of the night.
