Michael Conlan (16-1-0, 8 KOs)

A Belfast native, Conlan will undoubtedly have the crowd on his side for what might be the most pivotal fight of his career up to this point. He will come into the ring following a loss for the first time professionally, losing via TKO to Leigh Wood in March. 

For Conlan, the loss vs. Wood was closer than most TKOs would indicate. Making it all the way into the 12th round, the WBA featherweight belt was still within reach before falling into the ropes in the final minutes of the fight. How Conland responds here will likely tell the story of the rest of his career, as fighters tend to respond good or bad to their first knockout inside of a ring professionally. 

Miguel Marriaga (30-5-0, 26 KOs)

As for Marriaga, the 35-year-old’s career has primarily been defined to this point by failing to win big fights, which we once again saw on display in December. Losing to Eduardo Ramirez via unanimous decision at Staples Center in Los Angeles, was Marriaga’s second loss in three fights and his fourth since 2017.

While this isn’t a championship fight, it’s worth noting that Marriaga is 0-3 in championship bouts now stretching two divisions. “The Scorpion” has become best known for his body shots, which can be punishing when he’s landing them despite being less than 130 pounds. With 87% of his professional wins coming via KO, Marriaga is a threat to any boxer and Conlan would be unwise not to take this fight with the utmost seriousness.
