Vergil Ortiz Jr. (18-0, 18 KOs)

Turning professional in 2016, Ortiz Jr. has quickly ascended the welterweight ranks as he comes into this fight a perfect 18-0, all 18 ending inside the distance. The current WBO International and WBA Gold welterweight champion, Ortiz Jr. has finished all four title fights inside eight rounds.

He’s also extremely active, having fought four times since 2019, making wear-down a concern heading into this fight, despite being the massive favorite. The last time we saw him in the ring was his WBO title defense last August, an eight-round fight that was the longest of his young career thus far.

Michael McKinson (22-0, 2 KOs)

As for Ortiz Jr’s opponent, while he hasn’t fought much in the way of high-level opponents, he also comes into his fight with a perfect record of 22-0. Only twice, however, has McKinson ended a professional fight inside of the distance, with his last coming in November 2017 vs. Colin Lynes.

Having fought almost exclusively in England, this will be McKinson’s just second fight in the United States, his first a decision win over Alex Martin in March. While his run has been impressive, he is taking a major step up in this fight against an opponent in Ortiz Jr. who many see not just as the future of this weight class, but the future of the sport of boxing.
