The WBC and The Ring super flyweight belts will be on the line on Saturday in Mexico, as current holder Juan Francisco Estrada will put his straps up against challenger Argi Cortes. Streamed in its entirety on DAZN, this card offers strong Mexican fighters from top to bottom and should be one of the better ones of the weekend.

A former junior bantamweight champ, Estrada comes into this fight that many consider a tune-up fight following an 18-month layoff. Seemingly a formality, Estrada has a third fight lined up with arch-rival Roman Gonzalez later this year in all likelihood. 

Having split his two fights with Gonzalez, which were 9 years apart, the first loss was just the second of Estrada’s career, as he’d go on to dominate the rest of the flyweight division winning his next 10 fights in a row. Last losing in February 2018 to Srisaket Sor Rungvisai, Estrada has rattled off six straight wins, the most recent being a split decision over Gonzalez in March of 2021.

Argi Cortes (23-2-2, 10 KOs)

At just 27 years of age, Cortes’ history against high-level opponents is non-existent, but he does come into this fight with 11 straight wins. Having yet to fight outside of Mexico, the last time we saw him inside of the ring was a unanimous decision win in May. 

It is worth noting that the win was his third straight via decision, with the bulk of his KO/TKO victories coming earlier on in his career. Can Cortes shock the boxing world and pull off a massive upset as a relative known not just within the sport, but within the division? The battle will be an uphill one.

As expected, Estrada opened up the betting as a massive -3333 favorite, with the underdog Cortes coming in around +900 across the board. Since posted, however, we have seen this one come back down to earth, with Estrada now hovering in the -1600 range and Cortes +800 across the board.
