For the third time on Saturday, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez” will step into the ring to take on “Triple G” Golovokin for one of the longest-awaited trilogies in boxing history. The first meeting in September 2017 resulted in a split decision draw, the two met a year later when Alvarez earned the majority decision win.

In both instances, many felt that Triple G did enough to win, and in both instances, the attention on the fights was at an all-time high. Now, in front of a sold-out crowd at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV, the two will meet for a third time as Triple G will look to settle the score once and for all.

Let’s take a closer look at both fighters, and where the odds are headed as fight night on the strip quickly approaches.

Canelo Alvarez (57-2-2, 39 KOs)

Canelo will be making his way to the ring on Saturday in a very unfamiliar position for the 32-year-old fighter; off of a loss. The last time we saw him in the ring, Canelo lost via unanimous decision vs. Dmitry Bivol, losing his shot at the WBA (Super) light heavyweight title in the process.

Prior to then, you have to go all the way back to September 2013 for the last (his first) time Canelo lost, a majority decision loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. Going 14-1-0 in the time since, his only other “blemish” was his draw vs. GGG; something he’ll surely be looking to avenge here as he defends his WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO, and The Ring super middleweight titles.

Gennadiy Golovkin (42-1-1, 37 KOs)

Considered by most fans as one final payday for GGG, few expect him to be able to pull off a win of this caliber at this advanced stage of his career. Since losing to Canelo in 2018, GGG has gone on to win four straight, in the process picking up the IBF and IBO middleweight titles; albeit against lesser-known fighters.

The last time we saw him in the ring was his second straight win inside the distance, retaining the aforementioned belts as well as picking up a new one in the WBA (Super) middleweight title. With that April 2022 fight serving as a warm-up, GGG will look to try one final time to cement his legacy against arguably the greatest middleweight to ever lace them up.
