Cub Swanson vs. Jonathan Martinez Odds: Martinez Given 67% Chance To Defeat Swanson
The UFC returns this week following a week off, as the UFC Apex is set to host another great afternoon of fights. At the top, a pair of women’s flyweights will cap off the card in the main event, as Viviane Araujo takes on Alexa Grasso in what should be a terrific fight.
Before we get there, however, a pair of bantamweights will go at it in the co-main for what I think has fight-of-the-night potential. Let’s take a closer look at both fighters and where the odds are headed as fight night approaches.

Cub Swanson (28-12-0)
Swanson’s 10+ year career in the UFC has been one of the runs, starting it going 6-1 and picking up wins over the likes of Dustin Poirier and Charles Oliveira in the process. Spanning 2017-2019, however, Swanson then suffered a four-fight losing streak which he ended in 2019 with a win over Kron Gracie.
Including the win vs. Gracie, the 38-year-old Swanson has now won three of his past four fights and comes into this one surely thinking he is far from finished in the UFC. Versus Martinez, Swanson does hold the edge in significant striking accuracy at 50%, as well as a submission average of .45 per 15 minutes. The more well-rounded grappler, Swanson also has 2x the takedown average per 15 minutes at 1.08.
Jonathan Martinez (16-4-0)
Joining the UFC in 2018, Martinez has followed up an opening fight loss with a UFC record of 7-2 and comes into this fight on a three-fight win streak. The last time we saw him in the octagon was arguably his most impressive win to date, a decision win over Vince Morales in May.
A Muay Thai specialist, Martinez expectedly has the edges in striking, with 4.72 significant strikes landed per minute and .54 knockdowns per 15 minutes, on average. He also holds the edge in takedown defense at 73%, vs. 61% from Swanson.
