As far as high-profile title rematches go, there hasn't been much excitement leading up to Saturday's fight in Australia between Devin Haney and George Kamobosos Jr. for the undisputed lightweight title.
When the two fighters faced off in June at Melbourne's Marvel Stadium, the 23-year-old Haney (28-0, 15 KOs), one of boxing's quickest emerging stars, thoroughly outclassed the native Australian to win all four recognized world titles at 135 pounds. The second bout, which was moved nearby to the much smaller Rod Laver Arena, was scheduled for this weekend as Kambosos (20-1, 10 KOs) invoked his contractually required automatic rematch (ESPN, 10:30 p.m. ET).
As fight night approaches Down Under, let’s take a closer look at both fighters and how this one might play out.

George Kambosos Jr. (20-1-0, 10 KOs)
Arriving to June’s title fight a perfect 20-0 with 10KOs, the 29-year-old Kambosos Jr. was outclassed in every way, losing the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and The Ring lightweight titles. In what was a 12-round fight in front of a much larger crowd at Marvel Stadium, Kambosos looked way out of his depth, and way slower than the younger Haney.
Devin Haney (28-0-0, 15 KOs)
Coming into the first bout perfect in his own right with a record of 27-0, the flashy Haney looked sharp and lethal in June, winning nearly all 12 rounds en route to victory. There was a reason for optimism for Haney backers in the leadup to the fight, as the young American had picked up the WBC lightweight title in November 2019 and looked dangerous since.
Knocking off the likes of Jorge Linares and Joseph Diaz in the time since Haney beat Kambosos to claim all of the aforementioned bouts. If it not for the contractual rematch, Haney would almost certainly be fighting in another large arena as this kid’s potential is off the charts.
