Social media sensation Jake Paul will fight former UFC middleweight champion, Anderson Silva, on Saturday night in the eight-round main event of his first fight in almost a year. The main pay-per-view bout between Paul and Silva is scheduled to start at 9 p.m. ET from Glendale, Arizona's Desert Diamond Arena. Paul, a YouTube celebrity and kid actor who rose to stardom, is still dedicated to becoming a skilled professional boxer.
Although he hasn't yet faced a seasoned boxing pro, Silva is thought of as his most formidable adversary to date, as the former MMA fighter has been training in boxing for years now. Throughout his fighting career, the UFC Hall of Famer dabbled in boxing and has won two bouts in that sport in the previous 16 months.
Let’s take a closer look at both fighters and where the odds are headed.
Jake Paul (5-0, 4 KOs)
Just a few years ago, Jake Paul began his boxing career and since then, he has gradually increased the level of competition. He transitioned into the arena of competing against MMA fighters after beginning his fighting career against opponents the likes of Nate Robinson and fellow YouTubers.
Ben Askren was knocked out viciously by Paul, who then twice defeated Tyron Woodley. His final performance was noteworthy because Tyron Woodley was completely knocked out, in one of the most brutal ways in recent boxing history. He will now face Anderson Silva, who is regarded as the best MMA fighter of all time, and also an increasingly seasoned boxer.
Anderson Silva (3-1, 2 KOs)
Since entering the boxing scene, Anderson Silva has seen excellent results. Most notably, he defeated former world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. through decision, as well as defeating fellow MMA legend Tito Ortiz in the opening round via knockout.
At long range, Silva is a far superior strike, and he also comes into this one with the stronger defense. Silva's punch is superior as well, as are his combinations.
Silva's age is one factor, however, that can't be overlooked in terms of generating power. Even though he didn't appear his age in previous fights, he is still 47 years old taking on an opponent in Paul 20 years younger.
