Jack Della Maddalena vs. Randy Brown Odds: 77% of Bets on Della Maddalena to Beat Brown

The second PPV card of the year, UFC 284, is in focus, and it's a monster at the top. Josh Emmett and Yair Rodriguez square off for the interim featherweight championship in the co-main event, which I'll enjoy. In the main event, the world's best pound-for-pound (PFP) fighter, Alexander Volkanovski, climbs up in weight classes to face lightweight champion and the No. 2 PFP Islam Makhachev, which needs little introduction.

Right before both, however, a welterweight bout between local-fan-favorite Jack Della Maddalena and Randy Brown could just be the fight of the night. Let's take a closer look.

Della Maddalena vs. Brown Breakdown

Jack Della Maddalena (13-2-0)

Jack Maddalena Della will be trying to improve on his 13-2-0 career record, as the 26-year-old, will step into the octagon at just over 5'11 and with a reach of 73."  The size difference will be noticeable, as Brown stands 6'3" with a reach of 78".

Even still, Della Maddalena will have his way, as Brown is landing 4.38 significant strikes per minute, compared to Della Maddalena's 8.45 significant strikes per minute. Della Maddalena is landing 50% of his important strikes, while Brown is landing 48% of them, as well. Maddalena takes 4.22 significant strikes per minute when defending himself in the cage, whereas "Rudeboy" gives up 3.25.

Randy Brown (16-4-0)

When Randy Brown faced Francisco Trinaldo in his most recent fight, the outcome was a unanimous decision win. Brown successfully connected on 93% of his big distance strikes whereas Trinaldo ultimately connected on 82% of his attempts.

Brown was successful with 60 of 141 big strikes, or 42% of his attempts and of the 101 significant head-directed strikes he made, 30 were successful. Brown will also have big advantages on the ground, which when combined with his size advantage, I think he’d be wise to take it there.

Jack Della Maddalena vs Randy Brown Odds

When these odds opened up a few months back, local favorite Della Maddalena opened as the heavy -350 favorite, with Brown around +285. Since then, the UFC veteran Brown has been shown some respect, getting as low as +250 with the Australian now around -300 across the board.
