Jon Jones is scheduled to make his long-awaited return to the UFC octagon this Saturday to compete for the vacant heavyweight title. Ciryl Gane, a quick striker from France, will stand in the way of 'Bones' in the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, as all eyes in the combat world will be glued to ESPN PPV.
The star power of Jones has made this bout one of the most anticipated in the last few years and one of the most highly awaited fights in all of the combat sports. Although at least some of his mystique has come as a result of scandals and time out of the octagon, the majority of people consider him to be one of the best in the sport, ranking him alongside the likes of Georges St. Pierre (GSP) and Khabib Nurmagomedov.
For Gane, while he has fought for the title before, this will by far be the most critical fight of his career. Let's take a closer look.
Jon Jones vs. Ciryl Gane Odds
Oddsmakers see Jon Jones as the winning favorite with -138 odds, giving him an implied 58% to win this match. It makes a lot of sense, as Jon has won more than double the number of matches Ciryl has. These are two incredibly talented fighters, with just one loss on their resume each. Gane is seen as the underdog here in the oddsmakers' eyes, given +117 odds.

Jon Jones vs. Ciryl Gane UFC 285 Prediction
Jon Jones (26-1-0)
Jones makes his return to the octagon still with a record in professional mixed martial arts competition of 26-1 since becoming the UFC's youngest champion at the age of 23 in 2011. His lone defeat came in the form of a disqualification in 2009 owing to the use of illegal elbows in The Ultimate Fighter.
After spending the majority of his career as a dominant force in the light heavyweight class, Jones is going to make his debut in the heavyweight division in this bout.
Ciryl Gane (11-1-0)
Gane is a relative newbie to the professional ranks, with 11-1 under his belt at the age of 32. His lone defeat came at the hands of Francis Ngannou, the most recent heavyweight champion before he left the UFC over a contract dispute.
Gane is considerably more accustomed to fighting in the heavyweight class, but there is not a significant size gap between the American and the Frenchman. Jones is 6'4" and is said to weigh 255 pounds at the moment, which is an increase of 51 pounds from his most recent UFC weigh-in.
Jon Jones vs Ciryl Gane Pick
Gane is more of a traditional striker, relying on his footwork, upper-body movement, and hand speed. Yet, he is certainly capable of using his 6'5", 247-lb bulk to throw opponents to the mat. Jones is also a clinical striker, or at least he was when he competed at 205 pounds, and he has demonstrated that he is capable of wrestling with the best of them, particularly Daniel Cormier.
While both have the gas tank to get there, I don’t see this one making the full five rounds upright.
