Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul Odds and Fight Breakdown

Mike Tyson's last professional boxing fight was in 2005 when he lost to Kevin McBride. In 2005, most of Jake Paul's fans were in diapers or just a thought in their parents' heads. So, I think it's important to remind them exactly who Iron Mike was and how potentially dangerous this man is.

He's 58 years old, so his +180 odds to beat Jake Paul make a lot of sense in context, but let's remember who Mike Tyson is, or was.

In his prime, Mike Tyson was considered the most dangerous power puncher to ever step into a boxing ring. The ferocity of his punches is that of legend and would leave opposing fighters wondering exactly who they were going up against and if it was possible to beat him.

Mike Tyson started his professional boxing career in 1985, at the age of 18 years old. In his first 37 fights, only four fighters made it to a decision. He began his career 37-0 and 22 of those 37 fights ended by a KO in the first or second round.

Then in 1990, the unthinkable happened as Buster Douglas was able to withstand barrages from Mike Tyson and ended up knocking out Iron Mike in the 10th round.

That loss sent Mike Tyson's career into a spiral as he did little things like go to jail, fail drug tests and bite opponents' ears off in the coming years. Tyson's image has been repaired over the years, but the fact remains that is one of the scariest people on the planet.

As for Jake Paul and his -200 odds tonight, there isn't a whole lot to say about his prowess in the boxing ring. Still, at -200 his implied chance to win tonight sits at 66.7%.

After having watched a fair amount of Paul's fights, I am happy to say he's an above-average boxer and I applaud him for taking this seriously. However, if he wants to impress people he should start fighting active boxers and not retired MMA fighters, washed-up celebrities, and former heavyweight champs who are more interested in podcasting than competing.

Paul holds a 10-1 professional record, but in his boxing career, he's beaten guys like Nate Robinson, Tyron Woodley, Ben Askren, and Anderson Silva. He has faced three "real" boxers. His fights against Ryan Bourland, Andre August, and Tommy Fury satisfy that qualification and he's 2-1 in those fights, falling to Fury.

Paul will likey defeat Tyson tonight, as the latest Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul odds would suggest. However, it will be interesting to see how he reacts if he catches a flush shot from the best power puncher ever.
