Oliveira vs. Chandler Odds: Bettors Backing Chandler for Lightweight Title

Some worries about the state of the UFC lightweight division following the retirement of Khabib Nurmagomedov, and rightfully so. The Russian is one of the greatest UFC fighters ever and considered by some to hold that top spot.

But, Saturday night’s UFC 262 main event, Oliveira vs. Chandler, is sure to show fans that the division is in good hands as it moves on from an era of dominance at the top.

When Charles Oliveira and Michael Chandler meet in the octagon on Saturday night, someone will leave the new lightweight champion of the world. It’s a clash of styles and the first UFC title shot for either fighter. So, let’s break down Oliviera vs. Chandler odds, betting patterns and fighters.

Charles Oliveira

Charles Oliveira has been fighting in the UFC since 2010. He is one of the longest tenured fighters in the company and, shockingly, Saturday will be his first ever UFC title shot.

Oliveira is perhaps the greatest submission artist in UFC and MMA history. He holds the record for most submission victories in UFC history. He broke the record of 11 in 2018 and has added on three more wins via submission since.

Charles Oliveira has 39 professional fights and has won 30 of them, including eight straight coming into the UFC 262 main event. Oliveira is an extremely crafty grappler, always looking to reset submission attempts even after his opponent slips free. It should be interesting to see how Chandler handles the pressure from Oliveira.

Michael Chandler

Michael Chandler was one of the biggest names in Bellator until Dana White signed his to come over to the UFC. In his first ever UFC fight, Chandler caught Dan Hooker with a brutal overhand left that sent him to the mat, where he finished him off.

Chandler is a punishing, compact striker. Oliveira will have the length advantage, but Chandler has the ability to KO him at any point during the fight, all it takes is one clean shot.

Chandler was the Bellator lightweight title holder before losing the belt in 2019. He’s fought former UFC athletes Benson Henderson and Eddie Alvarez during his time at Bellator.

Oliveira vs. Chandler Odds

As you can see, there isn’t much separating Charles Oliveira and Michael Chandler when it comes to their fight at UFC 262. Sure, they differ in style, but they’re both well respected veterans of the MMA game looking for their first ever UFC title, and Oliveria vs. Chandler odds reflect just that.

At UFC 261, Kamaru Usman was a massive -400 favorite over Jorge Masvidal. For UFC 262, Oliveria vs. Chandler is a complete toss up, according to the odds.

As of Saturday morning, Charles Oliveira is a -134 favorite to defeat Michael Chandler. Those odds are indicative of a 57.3% chance he wins.

Chandler’s odds have fluctuated a bit more than Oliveira’s. Earlier in the week, Michael Chandler was as short as +110, then Yesterday he shot up to +120 and today he’s around +115 when looking for his best odds. At +115, oddsmakers are implying a 46.5% chance he ends Saturday’s UFC 262 main event as the lightweight champion.
