UFC Fight Night: Dillashaw vs. Sandhagen Preview

Rising bantamweight contender Cory Sandhagen welcomes former champ TJ Dillashaw back from suspension on Saturday.

TJ Dillashaw will make his first Octagon appearance in two-and-a-half years. Dillashaw, who is an ex-bantamweight champion, has no illusions about how the UFC world will view him following a ban for performance-enhancing drugs.

The 35-year-old is looking for redemption from both the fans and the Mixed Martial Arts community. In April 2019, the United States Anti-Doping Agency suspended Dillashaw for two years for using a drug named, ‘Recombinant Human Erythropoietin (EPO)’.

Dillashaw tested positive ahead of an unsuccessful attempt to move down to flyweight and challenge then-champion Henry Cejudo in January 2019. The UFC then forced him to relinquish his bantamweight belt.

Dillashaw did not set himself up with an easy comeback fight. Cory Sandhagen is currently the No. 3 bantamweight in the UFC. Dillashaw could immediately propel himself back into title contention with a win over Sandhagen.

Sandhagen, the favorite, has been fighting for the past two-and-a-half years, and is coming off two consecutive spectacular knockout wins. Sandhagen knocked out both Marlon Moraes and Frankie Edgar and has proven that he is one of the division's elite talents.
