When the odds opened up for this title clash, Pereira was listed as a heavy -160 favorite against former champion Hill. Since then, Hill has seen most of the cash, as is opening odds of +130 have been shrunk to +110.

After a run through middleweight, becoming a a champion there briefly along the way, Pereira made the move to light heavyweight last summer. In his first fight vs. Jan Blachowicz at UFC 291, Pereira earned a split decision, setting up a title fight for the vacant belt at UFC 295. Defeating Jiri Prochazka in the second round, Pereira picked up his second belt in just a few years, becoming the first fighter to hold both the middleweight and light heavyweight straps. 

Jamahal Hill (12-1-0)

Hill also won the belt at a time it was vacant, beating Glover Teixeira at UFC 283 at the start of 2023 for his fourth straight win. In preparation for his first defense, however, Hill tore his Achilles in July, derailing his title defense and forcing him to vacate the title. When he steps into the octagon Saturday, he’ll be doing so having won six of his past seven fights.

Much like we saw Prochazka come back too aggressively from a shoulder injury to lose to Pereira last year, I think we see a similar mistake here from Hill. If he had a warmup fight before, my opinion might be different, but Pereira has proven to be too lethal in all aspects of his game to take chances with.
