For the second time, Weili became champion of the strawweight division to end 2022, reclaiming the belt from Carla Esparza. Since then, she has defended it once, a decision win over Amanda Lemos at UFC 292 in August. With a record of 8-2 in the UFC, Weili can stamp her name in the history books even more firmly with another defense on Saturday night.

Yan Xiaonan (18-3-0)

In Weili’s way stands fellow countryman Xiaonan, who has been in the UFC even longer than Weili, but whose path has been a bit more windy. She was on a six-fight win streak to start her UFC career, before running into Esparza in May of 2021. Losing to Esparza, she then lost to Marina Rodriguez before getting back on track. Following wins over Mackenzie Dern and Jessica Andrade, Xionan will get her first shot at the belt in this one.

For my money, Weili is quietly making her case to be discussed amongst the best women to ever put on the UFC gloves. Her .36 knockdowns per 15 minutes in the octagon is 3x that of her opponent, as is the 2.29 takedowns she averages. I think we see Weili put together the Hall of Fame-type performance she is capable of in this one.
