For the second year in a row, the UFC will return to Perth, Australia for a great (morning) night of fights with plenty of local fighters on the card. At the top, a middlweight title fight is on deck, as new champion Dricus Du Plessis will take on former (two-time) champion Israel Adesanya.
As fight night quickly approaches down under, let’s take a closer look at UFC 305, starting with the first fight on the main card between welterweights Li Jingliang and Carlos Prates.

Li Jingliang (19-8-0)
Chinese veteran Jingliang will let to get back on track, as “The Leech” is now the longest tenured Chinese fighter on the UFC roster. Losing his last time out to Daniel Rodriguez back at UFC 279, nearly two years ago, Jingliang has managed one setback after another to have competed since. He’ll have to lean on his years of experience in this one, facing a much younger and hungry opponent.
Carlos Prates (19-6-0)
A DWCS fighter in 2023, Prates has come out of the gates firing in the time since, picking up two wins in two UFC apeparances to put himself firmly in the weltweight rankings. Fighting out of the coveted “Fight Nerds” camp, Prates now steps up to send one of the UFC legends into the sunset. With eight of his last nine straight wins coming via stoppage, he’ll be stepping into the brightest lights of his young career in this one.
Li Jingliang vs. Carlos Prates Pick
This is the classic passing of the guard fight that the UFC loves to put on, as Prates is looking poised to make a run in the welterweight division. Jingliang is facing the added pressure of having not fought since 2022, and now runs into a certified killer in Prates who has a knack for finishing. To date, however, Prates has yet to face a caliber of opponent to Liang, who lost his last two fights by narrow split decisions.
While Prates is certainly worthy of being the sizeable favorite in this one, I’ll take the nearly 3/1 odds on the grizzled veteran to keep this one close.
