UFC 328 Preview & Odds Breakdown

Chimaev enters the main event at 15-0, defending the middleweight title after taking the belt from Dricus Du Plessis, while Strickland comes in at 30-7 with former champion credibility and a recent win over Anthony Hernandez to get back into the title picture. The matchup has carried real animosity throughout fight week, but the tactical split is just as compelling. Chimaev’s wrestling, pressure, and physicality are the foundation of his unbeaten run, while Strickland’s defensive shell, pace, and volume striking give him a path if he can survive the early grappling storm and extend the fight.

The co-main event gives the card another title fight with a very different rhythm. Van is 16-2 and making his first flyweight title defense, while Taira is 18-1 and arrives as a dangerous challenger with length, grappling, and finishing instincts. Van’s title win came quickly after Alexandre Pantoja suffered an elbow injury, which makes this defense important for validation, while Taira’s ground game makes him a serious threat if he can force scrambles and take the fight away from Van’s speed and striking confidence.

The supporting main card has strong depth. Volkov vs. Cortes-Acosta brings heavyweight stakes, with Volkov’s experience and range meeting Cortes-Acosta’s power and durability. Brady vs. Buckley is a key welterweight fight between two contenders trying to reset momentum, with Brady’s grappling and control matched against Buckley’s explosiveness. Green vs. Stephens opens the main card with veteran edge, but Stephens enters under added pressure after missing weight and being fined, making discipline and pace central to that fight.
