How Long Has it Been Since Conor McGregor Last Fought?

Conor McGregor’s return at UFC 329 is not just another main event. It is the comeback of one of the biggest stars in UFC history, taking place in Las Vegas against Max Holloway in a rematch more than a decade after their first meeting.

The fight takes place Saturday, July 11, with the UFC 329 main card starting at 9 PM ET. The timing is notable because it comes five years and one day after McGregor’s last professional MMA fight, adding another layer to a comeback already defined by inactivity, injury and controversy.

Conor McGregor's Last UFC Fight

McGregor last fought on July 10, 2021, at UFC 264 against Dustin Poirier. That trilogy bout ended after the first round when McGregor suffered a severe leg injury, resulting in a doctor stoppage and a TKO win for Poirier.

That fight closed a dramatic chapter in the McGregor-Poirier rivalry. McGregor knocked out Poirier in their first meeting in 2014, but Poirier stopped him in January 2021 before winning the third fight after McGregor’s leg gave out at the end of the opening round.

McGregor’s road back has been filled with delays. He was repeatedly linked to a return against Michael Chandler after the two coached The Ultimate Fighter, but that matchup never made it to the Octagon. A planned UFC 303 comeback also fell apart after McGregor withdrew because of injury.

His absence also brought anti-doping scrutiny and questions about his testing status during his time away from competition. Combined with the severity of the leg break and the length of the layoff, those issues make this one of the most closely watched returns in modern UFC history.

McGregor enters UFC 329 with a 22-6 professional MMA record and remains one of the sport’s defining pay-per-view names. Holloway is a familiar opponent, as McGregor defeated him by unanimous decision in 2013, but both fighters enter this rematch as very different versions of the prospects who first met at featherweight.
