NFL Defensive Player of the Year Odds Update: Can Anyone Challenge Myles Garrett?

Through 14 weeks of the NFL season, there's a familiar name leading the way in the latest defensive player of the year odds. Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett currently leads the way at +300 to take home the award. The DPOY award is essentially a three or four player race until the end of the season. Garrett is trailed on the odds grid closely by rookie Micah Parsons, TJ Watt, and the reigning DPOY, Aaron Donald.

NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award Rankings

5. Trevon Diggs (+1500)

Diggs started the season on fire by collecting interceptions in the season’s first six games. He's since cooled off but he's still the best cornerback on the fourth-ranked defense in the NFL. Adding to the unlikelihood of Diggs taking home the award is only two cornerbacks have won this award since 2000. Stephin Gillmore in 2021 and Charles Woodson in 2009. According to our friends at BetMGM, Diggs has received the highest ticket percentage at 15.2% of any player this season.

4. Aaron Donald (+800)

The three-time defensive player of the year is once again in the running. He is the reigning recipient and he won the DPOY in back-to-back seasons from 2017-18. His numbers aren't as impressive as years past but he's still extremely dominant and can take over games. We saw this past Monday night against the Cardinals how many holding calls he draws by opposing offensive linemen.

3. T.J. Watt (+450)

Pittsburgh Steelers T.J. Watt, is third on the odds grid. He might be more deserving than any other player once again as he leads the NFL in sacks with 16, and has four forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. Many believe Watt was robbed last season of the award and it could prove true as he has more total and solo tackles compared to Garrett so far in 2021. According to BetMGM, Watt is the sportsbooks largest liability to take home the award in 2021.

2. Micah Parsons (+350)

The Dallas Cowboys' 2021 11th overall pick, rookie, Micah Parsons is looking to become only the second rookie to ever win DPOY honors, Lawrence Taylor being the one and only to ever achieve such a feat. He has 12 sacks, three forced fumbles, and is second in the NFL in tackles for loss with 17. He has at least one sack in six straight games, and Parsons’ 12 sacks are just 2.5 sacks behind Javon Kearse’s rookie record.

1. Myles Garrett (+300)

Garrett is second in the league in sacks with 15 trailing the aforementioned T.J. Watt. Garrett the former first overall pick broke the Cleveland Browns franchise sack record with a scoop-and-score in Week 14. It was his first forced fumble, fumble recovery, and touchdown of the season. He currently sits on top of the odds grid at +300. According to our friends at BetMGM, Garrett has received the highest handle of wagers at 19.9% on the DPOY this season.
