It took less than a season for Nathaniel Hackett to lose his job as Broncos head coach. Hackett is the third straight hire for the Broncos who will leave with a losing record, as Hackett, Vic Fangio, and Vance Joseph have combined for a 34-62 record. So, it stands to reason that the Broncos would like an experienced head coach to provide stability to a franchise that’s lacked it lately.
Denver Broncos Possible Next Coach
That leads the books to Jim Harbaugh. The current Michigan and the former 49ers Head Coach is given +200 odds, or an implied 33.3% chance to become the next head coach of the Denver Broncos. However, he’s not alone at the top of the market. Current Cowboys Defensive Coordinator and former Falcons Head Coach Dan Quinn is also in the mix at +250, or an implied 28.6% chance. In total, there are 22 potential coaches on the market. Of those names, 11 have held previous head coaching jobs.
There are some wild names that the market is considering. Among them is Peyton Manning who’s given +10000 odds, or an implied 1% chance to land the job. Shannon Sharpe is another one who’s given +10000 odds. Given how poorly the Jeff Saturday hiring has gone in Indianapolis though, it’s hard to see the Broncos hiring someone with no coaching experience.
There may be 22 names on the market, but the books really only see four real candidates. Harbaugh and Quinn lead the way, but Darrell Bevell, who was Russell Wilson’s offensive coordinator for a time in Seattle, is given +500 odds or an implied 16.7% chance. There’s also Sean Payton who’s given +575 odds, a 14.8% chance. The rest of the market is either first-time head coaches with little connection to Wilson or pipe dream candidates. It would seem at this point that the Broncos are likely to end up with one of these four as their next head coach, at least that’s how the books see it.
