Saquon Barkley has a real shot at winning NFL MVP in 2024. That's a crazy sentence when you consider that no running back has won the award since Adrian Peterson in 2012, but Barkley's impact on the NFC-East-leading Philadelphia Eagles has been undeniable.
If you watched Sunday Night Football this week, you know exactly what I'm talking about. The combination of the Eagles' offensive line of Jordan Mailata, Landon Dickerson, Cam Jurgens, Mekhi Becton and Lane Johnson, mixed with the explosiveness of Saquon Barkley, is unstoppable. Now, sportsbooks are starting to take notice.
Coming into Week 12, Saquon Barkley's NFL MVP odds sat at +6500. Now, those odds are as short as +550 in some places. Barkley leads the NFL in rushing yards and yards from scrimmage while averaging 6.2 yards per carry and scoring 10 TDs.
Saquon Barkley NFL MVP Odds
Date | Saquon Barkley MVP Odds | Implied Chance |

Before Week 12 | +6500 | 1.5% |
After Week 12 | +550 | 15.4% |
As you can see above, Barley's MVP odds took quite the jump on Sunday Night Football. Barkley went into halftime having a good-but-not-great game with 74 yards rushing, but he was just getting started.
Barkley took the first play of the second half for a 70-yard TD to break the century mark and get social media buzzing as he gave the Eagles a 20-7 lead.
He continued having a strong second half and was six yards shy of a career-high when the Eagles got the ball leading 30-14 with time winding down. Barkley proceeded to rip off another long TD run, this time from 72 yards out, cementing the game for the Eagles and giving him 255 yards rushing on the night. He added 47 yards receiving for good measure.
Following Sunday night's game against the Rams, Saquon Barkley's 1,392 rushing yards put him on pace for 2,151, which would break Eric Dickerson's current record of 2,105. He's also currently on pace for 2,548 yards from scrimmage, which would break Chris Johnson's record of 2,509.
It's important to remember that this is still a QB award for the most part and Josh Allen is still the overwhelming favorite. However, if Saquon Barkley keeps it up at this pace it may be impossible to deny him the award.
