College Football Playoffs Odds and Betting: Cincinnati Given Best Odds In History For A Non-Power Five School To Win
Cincinnati is given the best odds in the history of any FBS team from non-Power Five to win College Football Playoffs.
Could the Cincinnati Bearcats be the first Group of 5 team to make the playoffs? Oddsmakers aren’t quite there yet, but they’re pretty close.
Cincinnati is given +4000 odds, or an implied 2.4% chance to win a National Title. That puts them fifth on the market, just outside a perceived playoff spot.
Only Alabama, +175, Georgia, +180, Ohio State, +1200, and Oklahoma, +1500, have better odds.
Bettors are a little higher on the Bearcats. Since Saturday, Cincinnati has seen 18.2% of bets placed on them to win it all. Only Georgia, 27.3%, has seen more wagers.
The odds and betting is one thing, but reality seems to be another. It’s hard to picture Cincinnati landing in the top-4 after this past ranking. If defeating a top-10 team in Notre Dame on the road isn’t enough to move up just three spots into the top-4, then I don’t know that anything will. Cincy’s best hope is likely for SMU to remain undefeated and set up a matchup of two potential top-15 teams towards the end of the season. However, even that may not be enough to push them past a 1-loss Big 10 champion and an undefeated Big 12 champion.
Cincinnati squares off with Temple this Friday night at 8:00 p.m. You can see our game preview and pick by clicking here.
