Heisman Odds: Can Bryce Young Catch Early Favorite CJ Stroud for the Heisman?
Heisman Odds: Can Bryce Young Catch Early Favorite CJ Stroud for the Heisman?
College football season is here and sportsbooks are looking ahead to the Heisman chase already. They have a clear favorite in Ohio State’s CJ Stroud, but there’s expected to be some stiff competition.
Heisman Odds
Stroud is given +200 odds, or an implied 33.3% chance to win the Heisman. Those are the best odds given to a preseason favorite to win the Heisman since at least 2010. However, Stroud isn’t alone at the top. Alabama’s Bryce Young is given +400 odds or an implied 20% chance to win the award, and USC’s Caleb Williams is given +600 odds or an implied 14.3% chance.
There’s a steep fall after the top three. Clemson’s DJ Uiagalelei is fourth with +2500 odds, just a 3.8% chance to win. Then it’s Oklahoma’s Dillon Gabriel and Alabama’s Will Anderson at +3000. Showing that sportsbooks don’t expect much competition for the award this season outside of the top three.
The Heisman is an impossible-to-predict award. Since 2010, not a single preseason sportsbook favorite has won the Heisman. There’s a little twist on it this year though. For one, Stroud’s preseason odds are better than any of the other preseason favorites at +200, which shows faith in him that sportsbooks didn’t have in other years. So, either Stroud becomes the first preseason favorite to win the award in over a decade or he’s the biggest preseason bust in over a decade.
