Florida State enters the Cheez-It Bowl with a lot more key, impact players at their disposal, as Oklahoma will be without several linemen and running back Eric Gray, which is why sportsbooks are giving the Sooners 10 points as the underdog on the spread. Oklahoma started 3-0 this season under first-year head coach Brent Venables but finished the regular season with a 6-6 record due to a porous defense.
Florida State made massive strides in its improvement as a Power Five program in 2022 under third-year head coach Mike Norvell, who took the Seminoles from 3-6 to 5-7, and now 9-3 entering the Cheez-It Bowl. The offense was firing on all cylinders for Florida State this year due to the efficient arm of junior quarterback Travis Ward, who boasts a 5:1 touchdown to interception ratio for the Seminoles this season. Running back Trey Benson is only 35 yards shy of hitting 1,000 rushing yards this year, but sophomore wideout Johnny Wilson is Ward's favorite target on the perimeter. He stands to give the Sooners fits all night long in the 2022 Cheez-It Bowl.
Let's look at the latest odds, opt-outs, and predictions ahead of Thursday night's kickoff in the 2022 Cheez-It Bowl between Oklahoma vs. Florida State.

The oddsmakers like Oklahoma to win comfortably based on the 10 points they're laying on the spread. Florida State was profitable to bet on against the spread this season, going 8-4 ATS, while Oklahoma burnt a hole in bettors' pockets by going 4-7-1 ATS. The Seminoles also won their last five games outright, scoring at least 38 points during this streak, so they are full of momentum and confidence, which is reflected in the double-digit spread.
The moneyline odds are indicative of the double-digit spread, giving Oklahoma +310 odds to pull off the upset to win outright. Not only is Oklahoma going to be without its top running back and offensive tackles, but they are the 98th-ranked scoring defense in the FBS, allowing 29.6 points per game. On the other sideline, Florida State's defense played impeccably this season, allowing less than 20 points per game on average, ranking 17th out of 131 FBS programs.
The point total line is intriguing because two talented offenses are playing each other. 66 points are what it will take to hit the over on current odds, but the juice is distributed evenly in either direction, so oddsmakers aren't leaning one way or the other in particular. It's interesting to note that two of the Sooners' final three games totaled 43 and 41 points, coming up notably short of the 65.5-point total line set for the Cheez-It Bowl against Florida State. The Seminoles went 2-2 in its final four regular-season games based on this 65.5-point total line, so they are the primary reason for it being set so high.
Oklahoma vs. Florida State Prediction
Double-digit spreads are dangerous lines to bet on, as we've seen some of the best offenses in the FBS struggle to score points against bad defenses during the 2022 bowl season. Florida State has been crushing its opponents during its five-game winning streak, with the closest margin of victory coming during rivalry week in a 45-38 win over the Florida Gators in the final game of the regular season.
Oklahoma will be without its 1,300-yard rusher, Eric Gray, and also struggles to defend the run, which is what the Seminoles specialize in executing on offense. Florida State has ten rushing touchdowns across its last two games played, while the Sooners just surrendered four touchdowns on the ground to Texas Tech in its last game played. The spread is large in favor of Florida State but it's the best value to obtain at -110. I don't believe in the Sooners' offense or defense, but 65.5 points is a lot, so to play it safe, we're locking up the Seminoles to cover as ten-point favorites in the 2022 Cheez-It Bowl.
