If there were no Clemson vs. Tennessee opt-outs or injuries, this would be one of the schedule's best college football bowl games. Instead, we're left wondering what could have been when we see Clemson vs. Tennesee odds and get ready for the Orange Bowl.
Clemson and Tennesee came into the season hoping to play in the College Football Playoff and fight for a National Championship. Instead, they're playing just one day earlier than they had hoped.
Both Clemson and Tennesee will be without their starting QBs, but for two vastly different reasons. One was a Heisman frontrunner until going down with an injury. The other arrived on campus and was touted as the next big thing, only to fall short of those expectations.
If Tennessee had starting QB Hendon Hooker to lead them into battle against Clemson I would like their odds much better. Instead, they find themselves as almost a touchdown underdog due to Hooker's season-ending injury against South Carolina.
To make things worse for the Vols, Tennesee's opt-outs features a bunch of contributing players. Most importantly, leading receiver Jalin Hyatt has opted out to focus on the 2023 NFL Draft.
As for Clemson, they'll be without former starting QB DJ Uiagalelei, but not because of injury. Instead, Uiagalelei was benched in favor of Cade Klubnik and promptly decided to transfer to Oregon State.
Either way, Tennessee vs. Clemson opt-outs and injuries certainly make the odds for this game interesting. So, who should you be betting to win the Orange Bowl? Let's take a look.

Clemson vs. Tennessee odds seem about right when you consider everything that is impacting these two teams entering the Orange Bowl.
Sure, Clemson is without their "starting QB", but Cade Klubnik has looked much sharper than DJ Uiagalelei in limited playing time this season. Klubnik is no slouch either. He arrived on campus as a five-star recruit and seems to be living up to the hype.
Where I start to question Clemson is their list of defensive opt-outs. No Myles Murphy is going to hurt and it's going to be compounded by missing linebacker Trenton Simpson on top of that. Either way, Clemson vs. Tennessee odds have the Tigers favored by 5.5-6 points, depending on where you look.
As for Tennessee's odds to win this one, they are currently +190 on the moneyline, and for good reason.
I think Joe Milton is a serviceable backup QB. but I don't expect him to light the field on fire with his play. Add the fact that Tennesee is missing Jalin Hyatt and I don't know where the Vols' points are going to come from.
Clemson vs. Tennesee odds clearly favor Clemson, and so do I.
Clemson vs. Tennessee Prediction
I'm looking past Clemson's opt-outs on the defensive side and betting on the Tigers to cover the 5.5 points. I really like what I've seen from Cade Klubnik and I think he's got something to prove in this bowl game. He picked North Carolina apart in the ACC title game and I expect him to do the same to a bad Tennessee defense. The Vols won't be able to score enough points to keep up, even in that uptempo offense.
