Notre Dame will take on South Carolina during the 2022 Gator Bowl in Jacksonville, Florida. Notre Dame has played well throughout the year and if it wasn't for their slow start, we might be looking at a top-10 team. South Carolina is #20 in the country heading into the bowl season. They pulled off some insane wins at the end of the year against Tennessee and Clemson.
This game is going to be a tough one. While there are opt-outs on both sides and that plays a factor, both teams still have an immense amount of talent on both sides. South Carolina might actually be a bit overlooked.
If South Carolina played the way they did in their last two games throughout the entire year, they would likely be playing in an NYE6 bowl.
Just as with the other games that we covered with our college football predictions, there are two sides to both teams here and that's what we're here to break down.

As we can see from the Notre Dame vs. South Carolina odds, oddsmakers are actually backing Notre Dame in this one. While I don't necessarily disagree with that, I do think four points might be a bit much.
Spencer Rattler has decided that he will play in the Gator Bowl and not opt out. Rattler is about as interesting of a player as you'll ever find. Coming out of high school, he was widely regarded as a QB that had a chance to make it to the NFL.
He started his career at Oklahoma before transferring to South Carolina. At USC, he didn't find the most success right away, but he's starting to show positive signs. He finished with 2,780 yards, 16 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, and the 71st-ranked QBR.
However, it's the last two games that need to be talked about. Against Clemson, he threw for 360 yards, two touchdowns, and completed 25 of 39 passes. Against Tennessee, Rattler threw for 438 yards, six touchdowns, zero interceptions, and completed 30 of 37 passes.
Now, if he's going to come out and play as he did in those two games, South Carolina should feel confident coming into this game. We don't know if he can replicate those performances, but the last two games were promising.
Both teams have players that should be drafted within the first few rounds of the 2023 NFL Draft. Similar to other Bowl games, most of these players have decided to opt out.
Notre Dame has plenty of opt-outs, but South Carolina has even more. Most of these players have entered the transfer portal or are getting ready for the 2023 NFL Draft.
Notre Dame vs. South Carolina Prediction
When looking at this game, I have some questions on both sides. My prediction is going to be backing USC at +4. I think South Carolina has a chance to win this one outright.
It sounds crazy to say that I'm putting my trust in Rattler, but that's simply the case here. Rattler could explode for another game with 350-plus yards and carry them to a huge win.
