The Notre Dame Fighting Irish will take on the Navy Midshipmen in the first game of the college football season.
The game will be played in Dublin, Ireland, at the Aviva Stadium. The weather is currently iffy, with rain in the forecast. But with the new prized quarterback, Sam Hartman at quarterback, the Fighting Irish likely feel excellent coming into the 2023 season.
Marcus Freeman became head coach of the Fighting Irish last year, taking over for Brian Kelly, who darted for LSU. Freeman's Fighting Irish didn't play very well to begin the season. But towards the end of the year, Notre Dame was back.
This year's start to the season should yield better results with new prized quarterback Sam Hartman. Hartman has played nearly half of a dozen years in college football. He threw for 3,701 yards with Wake Forest last season and made the move to Notre Dame for his final season in college.
The Fighting Irish are going to love their new quarterback.
Let's preview Saturday's NBC matchup between the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Navy Midshipmen.

Notre Dame vs. Navy Preview
The Navy named Brian Newberry has the 39th head football coach of the Midshipmen. He's taking over for Ken Niumatalolo, who just couldn't put together respectable seasons recently.
The Navy will still run a triple-option offense. It just needs to add some new wrinkles into the playbook. The wrinkles that Nimatalolo used didn't exactly work.
The Navy has already said they plan to play both quarterback Blake Horvath and Tai Lavatai. Lavatai is coming off an injury and might not be 100%.
He'll likely start the game. But again, don't be surprised if his production is limited.
On the other hand, Notre Dame's offense should be way better than last year. The quarterback makes the team. Hartman is that guy.
But he'll also have Audric Estime at running back, who will likely earn over 1,000 yards rushing this year. He added over 900 yards last season and nearly six yards per carry. He's also got returning faces at Notre Dame, including Tobias Merriweather, Jayden Thomas, and Chris Tyree.
Meanwhile, under Freeman, the defense at Notre Dame has always had the upper hand. The Fighting Irish are also used to playing against the triple-option. They're an independent team that typically puts the academies on their schedule.
Notre Dame will be fun to watch this year.
Notre Dame vs. Navy Odds
The Notre Dame hype is real. They're 20.5-point favorites for the upcoming bout against Navy.
Oddsmakers are expecting a much better start to the season than last year for Notre Dame. Meanwhile, plenty of question marks surround the Navy's new head coach and quarterback play.
Although the Navy runs a triple-option, the quarterback still runs with the ball many times.
Meanwhile, Notre Dame is -1050 on the moneyline, while the Midshipmen are at +675.
Finally, the total of this game is sitting at 48.5. It's hard to imagine a high-scoring opener, especially if the rain plays a factor. Notre Dame has an explosive defense filled with graduates and seniors. The Midshipmen could struggle to find the endzone in this one.
Team | Point Spread | ML Odds | Over/Under |

Navy | +20.5 | +675 | O 48.5 |
