Virginia vs. Maryland Odds: Maryland Given 87% Chance to Beat Virginia

The Maryland Terrapins will take on the Virginia Cavaliers for the first time since the Terrapins left the ACC.

Virginia's start to the season has been a disaster. The Cavaliers lost to Tennessee, 49-13, followed that up with a loss to James Madison, 36-35.

The pass protection has been terrible, and Virginia doesn't have an X-factor on offense that can change the game. Against James Madison, Mike Hollins rushed 12 times for only 28 yards. Meanwhile, Perris Jones added ten carries for only 11 yards.

The passing game has Malik Washington and Malachi Fields earning receptions. But that's about it.

Tonight, they'll take on a Maryland team with higher expectations this year. The Terps are 2-0 after wins against Towson and Charlotte. Virginia isn't much more of a test than those two teams.

Let's break down tonight's matchup below.

Virginia vs. Maryland

Maryland Record: 2-0

Virginia vs. Maryland Preview

The Maryland Terrapins were able to hold onto their prized quarterback, Taulia Tagovailoa, throughout the offseason last year. Reports stated that Alabama and other schools were interested in Tagovailoa, but he stayed with Maryland this season.

Tagovailoa has thrown for nearly 550 yards through two games. He's also added four touchdowns and two interceptions but has completed over 68% of passes to begin the season.

Meanwhile, the run game has been electric. Roman Hemby has averaged 7.1 yards per carry despite 31 attempts. He's also added two scores on 220 yards rushing.

On the other hand, the coverage in the secondary for Maryland has been incredible. Maryland has allowed just 158.5 yards per game in the air. You can thank that secondary and solid pass rush from the Terps.

However, Virginia can't say the same. Virginia has allowed 447 yards per game on defense this season. They've given 220 yards per game in the air and another 227 yards on the ground.

The run defense is terrible. Virginia's defense will be gassed, with Maryland's Hemby averaging over seven yards per carry.

On offense, as mentioned earlier, the pass protection has been terrible. Maryland's pass rush should get to Virginia quickly and force errors, thanks to a terrific secondary.

Virginia vs. Maryland Odds

The Maryland Terrapins have an 86.7% chance of beating Virginia at home tonight. The Terrapins are -650 on the moneyline, with a spread of -14.5 (-110) against the Cavaliers.

If the Terrapins fall to -13.5, you'll want to pick up that critical number. But it's unlikely we get any movement that way. It's more likely that the movement goes the other way.

Meanwhile, the total for this game is at 46.5. It's tough to imagine Virginia keeping up with Maryland. Maryland will do its part for the total.
