Heisman Watch: Ranking the Top 5 Heisman Odds Candidates Going into Week 4

Week 4 is here and that means so is our Heisman Watch series as we get ready for an action-packed Saturday across the country. The latest Heisman odds have Miami QB Cameron Ward at the top as the new favorite.

Texas QB Quinn Ewers entered Week 3 as the favorite but after he went down with an injury and Arch Manning had to finish the game, Ewers' Heisman odds have fallen off the map.

Also, Georgia QB Carson Beck has fallen out of the top five, leaving space for Oregon's Dillon Gabriel to step in.

Maybe you like to bet on the favorite and throw some money down on Ward. Or, maybe you want a little more value with someone like Nico Iamaleava. Either way, before you make your college football picks make sure you get some action on the latest Heisman odds.

Heisman Watch: Top 5 Heisman Odds

1. Cameron Ward - Miami QB (+575)

Before the season, Cameron Ward had a lot of work to climb his way into the Heisman Watch list. Just four weeks into the season, he's officially the favorite to win the award. The former Washington State signal caller has been lights out and has Miami playing great football. Miami is 3-0 and Ward has thrown for 1,350 yards and 11 TDs while completing 73% of his passes. The issue for Ward is the Hurricanes have played absolutely no one and are currently boasting wins over a bad Florida team, Florida A&M, and Ball State. This week gets a little trickier with South Florida on the docket, but it's probably not until we see them against Cal and Louisville that we get a sense of how good they are. The good news is with teams like Syracuse, Georgia Tech, and Duke looking strong this year, an unbeaten run through the ACC might mean more than it has in recent years.

2. Jalen Milroe - Alabama QB (+700)

The bad news for us is that Jalen Milroe and the Alabama Crimson Tide have a bye week this week. The good news is that next time he takes the field it'll be against the No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs and their vaunted defense. To this point, Milroe has been one of the most dynamic players in college football. Milroe hasn't had to throw the ball much this season, but he's done an amazing job taking over for Michael Penix Jr. in Kalen DeBoer's offense. Milroe has accounted for 14 touchdowns this year and is 29th in the country in QBR. If he can throw the ball with any type of efficiency, his athleticism should carry him to New York for the Heisman Ceremony. That's why his Heisman odds have him as the second favorite. Alabama has five ranked opponents left on its schedule and all of them are inside the top 16 teams in the country. Three of them are inside the top seven.

3. Jaxson Dart - Ole Miss QB (+700)

Jaxson Dart has been very good so far this season, throwing for 1,172 yards and 8 TDs while ranking third in the nation in QBR at 91.6. However, I think it's a little early to start talking Heisman for the USC transfer based on him beating Wake Forest, Middle Tennessee and Furman. Still, like Cameron Ward, he can only beat the teams that have been put in front of him and he and the rest of the Rebels have certainly done that. The good news is that we're going to get to see him face great competition sooner rather than later. Starting on October 5, Ole Miss plays South Carolina, LSU, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Georgia consecutively. If he can get out of that stretch putting up big numbers and with his team still unbeaten, he'll have a better claim to the Heisman than anyone in the country.

4. Nico Iamaleava - Tennessee QB (+900)

If Jalen Milroe isn't the scariest athlete playing QB this season then it's Nico Iamaleava at Tennessee and his latest Heisman odds are proof of that as he's down to +900 now. In three games, Iamaleava has thrown for 698 yards and 6 TD while completing 71% of his passes as a first-time starter. The issue with him winning the Heisman this year is that Tennessee's best player may be their running back, Dylan Sampson as he continues to rack up an insane 7.9 yards per carry and has nine TDs on the year. I think we're one season too early on the Nico for Heisman train. However, don't be surprised if he's challenging a guy like Arch Manning for the award next season. Still, a win over No. 15 Oklahoma this week would go a long way in making his case for this season.

5. Dillon Gabriel - Oregon QB (+900)

Dillon Gabriel's Heisman campaign this season reminds me a lot of Bo Nix's last season. Not just because they both played for Oregon, but also because they played college football forever and can use that veteran knowledge to stand out on Saturdays. The good news for Gabriel is that a Big Ten title looks a lot better than a Pac-12 title has in the past for the Ducks, so he's set up perfectly to have a shot at the Heisman. With games against Illinois, Ohio State, Michigan State, and Washington on the schedule, they have plenty of work to do, but Gabriel has thrown for 914 yards and 6 TDs while completing 84% of his passes so far.
