Unlikely Player Backed To Win 2019 Regular Season MVP Award
We’ve got a long way to go between now and this year’s regular season MVP being decided, but money is already pouring in, and DraftKings have given us their most backed players to win MVP.
Right now the Top 10 by best odds are as follows:
Patrick Mahomes @+600
Andrew Luck @+900
Aaron Rodgers @+1200
Drew Brees @+1400
Tom Brady @+1600
Carson Wentz @+1600
Baker Mayfield @+2000
Russell Wilson @+2000
Philip Rivers @+2200
Matt Ryan @+2600
It shouldn't come as a shock that last season’s MVP Patrick Mahomes leads the way, with a host of future HoFers and hot prospects trying to beat him for this year’s MVP award.
What may come as a shock however, is two of the top three most staked players to win the 2019 MVP award (based on money staked via DraftKings):
3rd Place: Andrew Luck @+900 (current best odds)
The most unsurprising of the top three is Andrew Luck, who currently holds 7.4% of the money on the market. He had a very good season last year, and the time he’s spent on the field is surely only going to improve his skills and cohesion with his o-line and receivers. The Colts are improving rapidly, and many are chalking them up as potential contenders for this year’s Super Bowl, so it’s not a shock to see him in here.
2nd Place: Saquon Barkley @+5000 (current best odds)
The running back prodigy ranks second, with 7.9% of bets. The proportion stakes on Barkley seems odd, but clearly some bettors see value here, regardless of the fact that an RB has only won the MVP award once out of the last twelve seasons. His ADP in fantasy currently has him going first overall in drafts, and clearly a good share of bettors see him having an even better year than the last, potentially one that could see him be the first RB to win it, since Adrian Peterson in 2012.
1st Place Carson Wentz @+1600 (current best odds)
The Eagles QB finds himself as the most backed with DK on the market, with an astounding 32% of the money staked on him. He could be in for a great year, with some improvements made to the Philly offense, but many would have thought that his recent injury woes would turn away bettors from backing him for an MVP worthy bounce back year.
