The Seattle Seahawks are now the most likely team to win the NFC West, according to oddsmakers.
Before the first round of games began last Thursday, the San Francisco 49ers were the clear frontrunners to win the division; their odds of +105 indicated a 48.78% chance of success.
The Seahawks, by comparison, had pre-season odds of +230, which carried an implied chance of 30.30%.
However, after a number of unpredictable results in week one which included a 49ers loss to the Cardinals, oddsmakers have adjusted the numbers and it makes for great viewing from Seattle.
Following their win over the Atlanta Falcons, oddsmakers have cut the Seahawks price to +200, demonstrating that they believe their chances of winning the division have risen to 33.33%.
The 49ers have seen their odds lengthen after the surprise loss to +210, which brings their probability of winning down to 32.30%.
Oddschecker spokesperson Pete Watt: “We may only be one game in the season so panic in San Francisco and celebrations in Seattle will be measured.”
“However, oddsmakers take every factor, variable and consequence into consideration when setting their prices so Seattle’s favoritism should be taken seriously.”
“Russell Wilson was one of the pre-season favorites for MVP and did his chances no harm with an excellent performance. His consistency will be key for Seattle’s success but if he manages it, then the Seahawks odds’ for the division, conference and Super Bowl will continue to shorten.”
