NFL Odds: Patriots Spread Is Their Biggest In 17 Years
New England Patriots travel to Kansas City Chiefs this Sunday as the biggest underdogs they have been since a 2003 opening day loss against Buffalo Bills.
A young Tom Brady had a terrible outing that day - finished 14 of 29 for 123 and suffering a career high four interceptions – as Bills’ players Drew Bledsoe and Lawyer Milloy combined to haunt their former team in a 31-0 thrashing.
Although few expect quite such a dominant scoreline on Sunday, the Patriots will take to the field against a ruthless Chiefs side. as 7 point underdogs for the first time since that day.
Patrick Mahomes excelled against Baltimore Ravens on Monday Night Football and has seen his odds to be named MVP shorten to +400. However, oddsmakers are even more impressed with Russell Wilson and the Seahawks QB has overtaken Mahomes as frontrunner with his odds now reading +275.
In terms of the wagering breakdown for Patriots @ Chiefs, bettors clearly believe that the gulf in class between the two sides is smaller than the oddsmakers believe; 69% of bets since Monday have backed the New England at +7, compared to just 31% on Kansas City at -7.
On the moneyline, however, the Chiefs are the clear pick despite having very short odds of -278. 75% of wagers have backed them, with just 25% going on the Patriots to win at +250.
