NFL Odds: Oddsmakers Haven’t Written Off Panthers in the Race for NFC South
The Carolina Panthers' odds of winning the NFC South are the best they have been all season, following their win over the Atlanta Falcons in Week 5.
The Panthers were the biggest underdogs in the division prior to Week 1, with their preseason odds of +2200 suggesting an implied probability of just 4.35% that they would manage to win it.
However, as of today, their odds have been cut to +600, suggesting their chances have jumped to 14.29%.
In doing so, they are now third-favorites to claim the division, ahead of the hapless Falcons but still trailing the Bucs and Saints.
Oddschecker spokesperson Pete Watt: “Carolina was rock bottom in the oddsmakers' estimations to win the NFC South at the start of the season, and an injury to Christian McCaffrey dented their chances even further.”
“However, following some inconsistent play early on, they have now won three in a row and the sportsbooks are beginning to take them more seriously.”
“While it does currently seem like the oddsmakers believe it will be a shootout between New Orleans and Tampa Bay, Carolina is hitting form at the right time and the return of McCaffrey in the coming weeks will only better their chances.”
